Bound to happen with them using AC that are sold by other airlines due to age. Also has been going on for some time just not well reported. The article has some passenger making speculation as to where and why the supposed chunk of rubber got into the blades. The surprising thing is that it lasted so long most of the time they come apart much faster due to imbalance so I find the cause hard to believe at this time.

I doubt engine failures are going on without being reported. How is a FOD damaged engine related to the age of the aircraft? Could happen to a brand new AC as easily. The article says a mechanic said it had a chunk of rubber that caused blade / vane damage, but no speculation on the source other than it probably picked it up from the ground. That's why I was wondering how it could fly for an hour or so before causing the damage. That usually happens on take-off / climb out under higher power, not at cruise altitude.

That is strange. If it was FOD, you would think it would have taken it out right away. Mechanic did express surprise though; that he hadn't seen anything like it in 20 years, so idk. BUT, we are talking Allegiant here.
