If we did impose hard labor, it would have to involve tasks where it'd be difficult to enact some sort of retribution against anyone through the work they do. While I agree that a lifetime national flight ban would be way too harsh I think that American Airlines would be well within their rights to refuse to serve her in the future (or for a period of time of their choosing) as they are a private business and can decide who they want to sell to.
