United Officially Applies To Launch Dulles to Cape Town Town Service

प्रस्तुत

On the morning of May 18, United Airlines announced it had filed an application with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to fly from Washington, D.C. (IAD) to Cape Town (CPT) thrice weekly. This proposed flight will become the first service between the two capitals, paving the way for better inter-governmental connections and relations. (aeroxplorer.com) और अधिक...

Delta also filed an application with USDOT for Atlanta - Cape Town service. If Delta were to receive the route, there would be parity between United and Delta. If United secures the service, United will have way more service to South Africa than Delta. No clue which way the DOT will go, but if I were to bet, I would give Delta the advantage.

Is this the same (or similar) route where depending on weather there were fuel consumption issues and some jets had to make pit stops for more gas and crew changes?

No - Cape Town is at sea level making the trip easy for the A350. The fuel problems have occurred with flights out of Johannesburg to Atlanta due to Johannesburg's elevation causing greater consumption of fuel. Cape Town is fine.
