VIDEO: Breathtaking Boeing 747 Cockpit Scenes
Submitted
Every now and again, we come across a video that so perfectly captures the magic of aviation, we can’t help but share it. Today, we came across a three minute video capturing moments inside a Boeing 747-400. We couldn’t discern, for sure, what carrier it is or if it encompasses a single flight or clips from multiple. It does look like it starts off in Anchorage, however. (www.liveleak.com) More...Beautiful Images Of Airports From Above
Submitted
The best view of the airport is definitely reserved for pilots. On her blog Holding Pattern, designer Lauren O'Neill collects beautiful satellite images of airport tarmacs from above, where the baggage fees and long lines and flight delays melt away into a neat, orderly vision of grass, concrete and tiny, toy-like planes. Submitted
Captain Eric Auxier, who also happens to be a writer and blogger, produced a great video detailing a day in the life of an airline pilot. From wake up call to shutdown checklist, Auxier illustrates not only what he does before and after a flight (with some added humor along the way), but also what happens when his airbus A319 is cruising along at 32,000 feet. Submitted
A man bought a first-class ticket and used it to have free meals and drinks at the airport's VIP lounge almost every day for nearly a year. The itinerary for the ticket was found to have been changed more than 300 times within a year, and the owner of the ticket used it to enjoy the facilities at the airport's VIP lounge in Xi'an in China. More than 800 firefighters have been battling the Colby wildfire in southern California for several days. In addition to the firefighters on the ground, a few brave pilots have been fighting the fire from the sky. At Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area in Irwindale, CA, the pilots of a Bombardier 415 Superscooper owned by the Government of Québec have been touching down to refill their 1,620 gallon tank on the go. Submitted
A total of 1,050 757s were produced from 1981 to 2004, with the last aircraft delivered to Shanghai Airlines in November of 2005. The secondary market for the 757 has shown considerable strength, especially amongst cargo operators thanks to the aircraft’s capabilities. But passenger operators have steadily replaced the type with the Boeing 737-900ER and Airbus A321. (airchive.com) More...STUNNING! Drone Video of Mexico City International Airport

A very funny safety announcement for GA aircraft (specifically a Maule). If only there were seatback video screens. (www.youtube.com) More...The SST-2707 and the 747; Unintentional Queen of the Skies

Forty-five years ago today, on September 30, 1968, the very first Boeing 747 jumbo jet rolled out of the hangar in Everett, WA. Thousands came from all around to see the largest airplane Boeing had yet built; well over twice the size of the largest passenger jets at the time. It is planning a full year of celebrations and promotions to lead up to Oct. 13, 2014, when the Wright amendment goes away and Southwest can fly nonstop anywhere it wants in the United States.
