I still find it hard that in this day and age an Aircraft can be so badly damaged by a fire such as this one was and be almost a total loss?

Battery fires (if that is what caused this, but it is a strong possibility given the sudden and highly energetic fire) burn incredibly hot and are very difficult to put out. From the displacement of the horizontal stabilizer it seems as if the keel beams melted — this is going to be a complete write-off.

Even if it is technically possible for the aircraft to fly again if the data plate survived, it makes no financial sense.

Need to know how aircraft are built first. New cars can be a total and everything from the firewall back is good.

Keep in mind that they have a different stands over there!

No you need to look at the AC its gone might have good engines but all the rest is trash due to heat and just being burned up. How would someone ever fix it? Oh forgot you dont know much about AC repair.

Watch the video! Large whole burnt through the top of the A/C. Only thing I know that would do that is NiMH batteries... AKA Cell phone like batteries. UPS had a similar occurrence a number of years ago.

Cell phone batteries are Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer these days. They're even more spectacular than NiMH batteries in a fire. Could be any.

There is another account of the TU-204C (cargo) accident on flightglobal --

https://www.flightglobal.com/safety/tu-204-freighter-destroyed-in-ground-fire-at-hangzhou/147043.article

which shows photos of the cargo aircraft (in it's current operator's livery), with fuselage collapsed after the fire.

That is one plane that won't ever fly again, or if it does, it will be a long time to repair... Entire Fuselage will have to come off and be in a Fuselage Jig to realign it and to reskin it.

The only way that plane will ever fly again is as drink cans inside a refreshment cart.

Anything is repairable... Technically as long as the data Plate is not destroyed, every other part of the plane can be replaced... The question is not if it can be repaired, but if it is Economical to repair. And a repair would be basically take a new Fuselage and transfer the data plate and wings to it! :)

That is true many ww2 ac are done that way but not many others have been to CO and visited several fighter rebuild shops and seen just that done.
