Controller should be put on leave the Unions argument was a stupid try at saying he was not able to see the parts??????????? Should have sent a vehicle out to verify the fact one way or another. Too many controllers think they are above everything.

Were you there when it happened? No?? STFU.

Common sense would've dictated a physical sweep be performed. If the facts in the story are accurate, the controller and supervisor on duty should be reprimanded...

Not the towers responsibility. That job belongs to the ground crew to inspect the runways.

It was the Tower's responsibility to order a sweep.

Maybe at your airport, but not at mine. Our military operated base which is also a civie airport the ops tower does not order a sweep. Everytime a mil flt leaves, the ground crew inspects.

Wow, that's a damn good radar system, however I seriously doubt any ground radar could detect these small parts. More to the point is the normal vehicle runway/taxiway inspection done every morning.

Guesswork ?? If any system is not functioning correctly, inspect it before using it. Assumption is the mother of all f-ups.

Parts appear similar to my wife's Maytag washing machine. Rotate!
