How Southwest And Virgin America Win By Putting People Before Profit

प्रस्तुत

Richard Branson and Herb Kelleher, two of the world’s most legendary entrepreneurs, share a similar philosophy: take care of your people first and profits will follow. Although the airline posted a profit of $8.8 million in its second quarter, it has yet to turn a profit for an entire year. However, it’s already winning the hearts and wallets of many travelers. Being a person who began his career as a Marketing Engineer, "customer first" has always been my priority. Experience and formal professional education only helped me to formulate and define my customer oriented approach more easily.
Hence, any entrepreneur who considers profit comes first is sure to fail and s/he will realize the folly sooner than later .
Profits can ONLY come through customer satisfaction. 'The customer is always right' is not to be learnt with a contempt towards customers. But with honest reverence to them ! Consumer Courts are acting as watch dogs against the protection provided by the proverbial fine pint.

The NY Times writer (that this article rebuts) suggested that Virgin America would lose their customer focus and customer satisfaction, as they tried to maintain profitability. But completely ignored Southwest as an example of an airline that was both customer centric (second only to Virgin America in customer satisfaction) and profitable (years upon years of profitability, at the same time many other airlines were in and out of bankruptcy court).

Going by what their mentor-boss Richard Branson does in the area of marketing, there is NO possibility of that.
Look at his personal conduct as well his business approach !
Always trying to reach customers, by what ever means or gimmick, I do not care.
And trying to introduce space travel/tourism, the expected success/failure notwithstanding.
I will be willing to elaborate if insisted upon, how space tourism, which very few can or be able to afford, can be translated into customer satisfaction at large ! . .
