Blue Angels Cancel Airshows After in-Flight Incident

प्रस्तुत

This event occurred 05/22 at the Lynchburg Regional Airshow in VA. It appears that the diamond formation flew below altitude minimums. I searched YouTube but couldn’t find footage of the incident. If I did, the incident appeared to be minor. (www.navytimes.com) और अधिक...

The Blue Angels have a super dangerous job that thrills countless people.

It is good to hear that safety appears to comes first - because canceling shows on the Memorial Day weekend is a testament to the all-important safety issue.

Kudos to the Blue Angels for this self-imposed review - after all their lives and spectators could be changed forever if safety is not priority one.

I'd love to hear from a Blue Angel on whether they think safety is first (as indicated by this incident) - but an Blue Angel caught criticizing their bosses risks being booted from the highly competitive slot on the premiere military traveling flight show.

But - based on this - its sounds like safety is truly first even though shows had to be cancelled on their biggest weekend of the year.

This is a good thing since there is no room for error in the Blues routine, we can always see them at another venue or next time they visit. safety is paramount in these organisations, because without it there would be frequent tragedies, thats why each member of the team critique each other including the Boss, this allow the members to catch any deficiencies in it's early stage.

Well you're not supposed to fly faster than 250 knts below 10,000 ft and any lower than 1800 ft over populated areas but they do it....plus I saw them in Beufort a few weeks ago and they seemed to be doing just fine....This may be the result of a public complaint due to noise...why people choose to live near airports and complain about not being able to sleep is beyond me.....Other air traffic going in and out of Lynchburg may have been a contributing factor as well...While it might be cool to the pilots of a passenger jet to get an awesome view of the Blue Angels the passengers may think otherwise.

I was looking forward to seeing the Blue Angels at the Millville NJ show this weekend. They're the "best of the best" and I have enjoyed their performances at Willow Grove NAS and Millville. Also, watch their video often between shows. I respect their self-imposed "grounding" for safety reasons & additional training. I also will look forward to seeing them back in the air demonstrating their exceptional skills that thrill all of us who love aviation.

Tim you apparently are not aquainted with the waivers that are put in place for airshow performances. Generaly there is no speed restriction up to .9x mach. Air traffic if any at a show site is coordinated thru the air boss allow commercial trafic to continue at a show site.

I agree dustoff03 - I was a civilian (news reporter) passenger in a B-52 Bomber from then KI Sawyer AFB to the Grand Rapids Air Show.
Our plane did a low pass - then engines full - going straight up (felt like I was on my back sitting in the small IP seat.)
I listened to the Air Boss for several minutes (can not recall how long exactly) as we waited our turn - and he did not allow commercial traffic to continue.
I even asked our pilots about other planes and they explained his ultimate authority.
The Air Boss is definitely in charge.
Obviously, that's a good thing.
