BOEING 747-8 (N861GT)
"Boeing 702 Heavy" departing a cloudy Everett for Portland to receive its Atlas Air paint job. This is one of the final three 747s on order and this will very soon be a scene of the past after 53 iconic years. What a bittersweet moment. Long live the Queen!
Comments
It has been sad to see the decline of any B747s in the skies. I worked on several Queens of the Skies at Air New Zealand. One of them ZK-NBT is pictured in this weeks Popular Photos' Initial thoughts back in the 1970s was that they were to big to fly! How wrong we were! To fly in one on a test flight of a commersial sector was to realise just how this machine wanted to fly. What a beautiful wing to look out over. To feel it move when walking out to a wing tip. 9 In maintenance and not on jacks of course! A truly great machine. Hansomely beautiful in the air as well. So graceful when compared with todays 'Super Dinasoar' the A380!
Agreed. Boeing used to make beautiful planes (B-17 etc) and the A-380 is truly hideous.
Truly a bittersweet moment. In a few years to come, we would see both Passenger and Cargo Airlines asking for this beauty once again. Just as the 757. Two wonderful aircraft.
I think since 1969 nobody will forget the 747.. A PLANE!!
One of my favorite four aircraft of all time. The beauty and versatility of the 747, also the simple but eloquent DC3, The grace and longevity of the B52 and the power and whistling sounds of the twin engine F4 Phantom.
Always will be THE BOSS.
