Sky King didnt have a D-18....His was a Bamboo Bomber, a C-30 I think was the designation.

Uncle Sky started with a Cessna T-50 then got into a Cessna C-31B. A one second search of Google turned up the info.
I used to work on one of this (as C-45) during my days at high school studying for aeronautic technician. Good memories.
Whichita bug smasher
"Love That Bob" was the show that used a Beech 18.
Type designator = BE18
Majestic!
I love those radials
Nostalgia. My wife and I met Kirby Grant (Sky King) at a pavilion, name I've since forgotten, outside of Disney World in 1975 or 76 that has since been bulldozed. I too grew up with him and Penny so we were enthralled when we happened upon him hosting or representing the venue. He freely charmed us with an "aw shucks" rendition of his time as Sky. Until I read the referenced site on Google, I too thought (remembered incorrectly) that his plane was a twin tail dragger and later the Cessna 310. A plane I remember getting my multi in way back when. Thanks Daniel G. for the correction and updated perspective. Obviously, that chance meeting with Sky has been an indelible file in my folder of memories for over 45 years.
Beautiful shot !
