As all aviation photogs and fans probably already know, the USAF is junking its fleet of McDonnell Douglas KC-10 tankers. They are being replaced by KC-46 Pegasus tankers.

Photo shows the final takeoff of USAF 86-0032, a 37 year old McDonnell Douglas KC-10A Extender.

This aircraft departed Reno last Friday (seen in this pic) and flew to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona -- the military aircraft scrapyard -- where it made its final landing.

By September of next year, the entire fleet of KC-10s will have been sent to the boneyard at Davis-Monthan to join this aircraft waiting to be sliced up.

Nice one Gary. Actually had a cousin that pumped the gas on these tankers during the Gulf War. Check your Gmail.

Great capture Gary! I have not been able to photograph many of the KCV-10 Tankers so this is historical. Well done!
