Lockheed C-130 Hercules (92-0549)
A NevANG C-130H (920549) is being deiced in preparation for a flight. The trees in the background, somewhat difficult to see due to a blanket of fog that is slowly being dissipated as the sun gets higher in the sky, are encased in the same snow and ice as Roller Four Nine and illustrate why it took a few minutes for the ground crew to completely deice the Hercules.

I forget exactly what the various colors of deicing fluids are used for - and when - but during this deice operation on the High Rollers apron I saw that reddish fluid used as well as the clear stream seen here, while over at the commercial airline deice pad I saw ground crews using a greenish fluid. I'm not sure if those are the only different types of fluids, but those (the reddish and greenish) were the only colored fluids I saw and I think the clear stream being sprayed in this shot is just steam. But again, I'm not sure. Steam is merely heated water so I'd think it would just freeze on to the surfaces again as it cooled down. Perhaps Ken K would know for sure. Ken?
