The Navy ones used a tail hook. A lot easier to repack and a little more effective than a chute. I remember these from the 70's too, but on the other side of the planet! I think it is one of the "baddest" looking fighters ever.

I was a crew chief for about 10 years at the famous RF-4-E at a german recce squadron (AG 51 "I") I love to see these pics of this mighty and beautiful aircraft.
