02-05-23. Military version of DC-4. Originally built as a C-54.

To a large extent, C 54/DC 4's have outlasted newer Douglass equipment. Mostly about the expense of operating the big radials. The The P&W R 2000 certainly is cheaper to operate than R 2800/ R 3350 engines.
My supervisor at Areo Union Corporation would have liked to put R 1830's on our fleet of C 54's to cut expenses. He couldn' get an STC.
