LIAT failed because of political interference for the last 50 years, COVID bankrupted the shareholder countries and made it impossible for them to keep propping it up with hundreds of millions of dollars. LIAT's air fares were not that high, but government taxes and fees (cash cow source of revenue imposed by the same politicians) raised the total paid by a passenger from between 150% and 250% of the original air fare. In addition, LIAT -- a PUBLIC company owned by the taxpayers of several countries - has not published annual accounts for well over 40 years, suggesting that politicians (and possibly management) used it as a ready source of large cash amounts for their own personal purposes. Over the years management trie3d several times to use employee pension funds for operating capital (when they ran out of money every few months), but the courts always denied them. So instead of taking it out they stopped putting the employee and company contributions in, the amount owing I

I think the big problem the US government, Congress and the DoT are really finding with Boeing is a decades-old culture of arrogance and profiteering. Having the FAA let them police their own work is only one more aspect. Arrogance, bonuses, treating potential customers with disdain, only a couple of reasons people are fed up with Boeing. "Too big to fail" may not apply eventually. Now we are finding problems with pickle forks on the older 737, there are problems with the 787 and debris left in the fuel tanks of aircraft because Boeing wants the work done quickly. As always, the basic problems float to the top - a greedy management who think because they run Boeing they are infallible and perfect.

Decades of sloppy work and bamboozling the FAA, and this is all going to be solved "fast"?? I guess DeTurd is an expert on aviation and engineering, too... maybe he can write a new program for the one that crashed the two 737-MAX. Arsehole.

FAA seems to have been really "off the ball" in the last few years. Yet they fly around the world approving (or not approving) entire foreign countries for the IASA/ICAO Category 1/2 Safety rating, which bars some registrations from flying directly to the USA (nobody else cares). But how safe is the FAA? They take a good part of the blame for the fiasco at Boeing - I guess they looked at doctors and lawyers, and figured Being could police itself too... There is mass hypocrisy in US politics, and clearly now there is mass hypocrisy in both US government and US companies (we already know about the unlimited greed).

Initially, the crashes of two planes which were a new type (modified legacy 737) did not make much of a splash here halfway around the world. Then, we started to hear the reports about WHY they crashed. As the investigators dug deeper, Boeing showed more and more excreta on its face - and then the FAA was dragged in with at least as much blame as Boeing. Boeing has been doing business in a cut-throat manner for many decades - the latest being their attempt to shut down the CSeries (now A220) through trade tariffs and politics. Greed, arrogance, stupidity, ignorance, laziness and a host of other super-negative traits to the aviation business have dragged a once respected commercial name and previously globally respected authority into the mud through their own actions and inactions. They both have nobody to blame but themselves, and now it is fitting that they endure the punishment for as long as it lasts.

Why aren't they boasting about this now? Strange how the Boeing BIG MOUTHS are so silent.

Great aircraft, abysmal company. So many REALLY great airplanes sunk, destroyed, sold or given away by just terrible management and a piss-poor sales force (yes, I mean that). I am sure there are SOME family-run companies that are well run, but this ain't one of them. More than 2 Billion sucked out of taxpayers pockets to prop up a private company!! and their Rail Division is JUST AS BAD. I learned decades ago never to work for a family-run company... and this is a prime example. Now their claim to fame is a "new" LED interior and ONE 20-year-old aircraft? Desperation comes in many packages, I suppose.

What a pile of arrogant ignorant - stupid - CRAP. First, the headline suggests this is a global phenomenon - where in fact it might not even be an American phenomenon. If you write an article that will go further than your local paper, start out by stating some parameters, that should not be rocket surgery for a responsible journalist. Second, Silver (Florida) just bought a shyteload of ATRs to replace their Saabs, so how is THAT an "era coming to an end"?? And ATR is making more inroads into North America as (Dash-8) Bombardier's family-run management is revealed to be even more incompetent and ridiculous than previously believed. Because the large airlines are divesting the Dash-8s, HOW does that translate into an "era coming to an end". Perhaps the era of that Bloomberg "reporter" being a "journalist" should come to an end - it sure would solve one problem.

The rest of the world is trying to reduce (or stop) using fossil fuels, Boeing is figuring a way to use them up 12 times faster than the worst existing jet fuel guzzlers - all to get some fat entitled rich guy where he is going four times faster than anyone else. Way to go, America! Don't tell me, it was Trump's idea, am I right??
