It’s not a bad article, but it seems to suggest that electric and hydrogen solutions are carbon neutral. But as long as there are coal, oil and gas powerstations, it’s not better to take a train than a plane, you’re just moving the location of emission.

The best start to sustainable transportation is an enormous investment in nuclear power. Prioritize replacing fossil fuel-based electricity generation with nuclear power-based electricity generation with more capacity than its predecessor. We can then use the clean, reliable energy powering the grid to enable portable wireless energy sources like batteries, hydrogen, and things yet to be invented.

Mankind and its ever-growing population cannot avoid stepping on itself.

Of course! It's sustainable now and getting better all the time! Today we move 200 people from the east to the west in 4 hours. 200 years ago it took 6 months and all plus the animals had to be fed, housed, warmed, defended, and some buried 24/7 everyday. The flatulence alone of 200 people and animals for 6 months had to leave a hell of a footprint not counting the carbon. Climate alarmists today are the most hilarious people I know to listen to. Money and power is all they want. Not our well being. God has a plan. I trust it more than the idiots that think they're in charge today.

Once there is ambient temperature super conductive materials so that battery and motor technology efficiency jumps several orders of magnitude, yes. Until then, no.

With the current rate of generating sustainable electricity, there is no benefit in making saf or electric trains. A good solution would be to limit people to breed. Stop overpopulation and encourage people to have no more than 2 or 3 kids. Oh well… :)
