A pilot was first to flee a plane after hearing a loud explosion, leaving passengers to fend for themselves as smoke filled the cabin, report says

प्रस्तुत

A Vueling pilot fled his plane after there was an explosion, abandoning the passengers. One passenger told The Sun the captain ran off as soon as the flight attendant opened the door. Most of his crew followed, while only one flight attendant was left to look after passengers. A passenger said the pilot of a passenger jet abandoned all those on board after being the first to flee the plane following a loud explosion. Andrew Benion told The Sun he was aboard a Vueling flight from Barcelona to… (www.msn.com) और अधिक...

Passenger: But sir, a captain always goes down with his ship!
Captain: Well, we're down, ain't we?

Reminds me of the old joke: a soldier lost his rifle during some training exercises. When told he’d have to pay for the replacement: “Now I know why a captain goes down with his ship”

Captain: Also you know this is an airplane, not a ship.

That reminds me to captain Francesco Schettino when the Costa Concordia sank in Italy.

Tom I agree, but Airduffus1 can't comprehend that.

SO is there legal implications like if this were a sea captain?

who would like to share a cockpit with this captain, with his set of reflexes and responsiblities?

Vueling states it was a "Small external fire", I wonder what the real problem was.

It’s been reported as an APU fire/smoke incident:

This has to have been many many years ago.....F/As can't access the cockpit at any time they want. They have to call, get someone inside to unlock the door and then enter. As for the CA ditching the plane with PAX still on board....he is just a coward.

I guess the first question to ask would be: was the smoke origin in the cockpit or in the pax cabin. If in thé cockpit ,the first and normal réaction was to exit the cockpit and to catch your breath(oxygène) by getting fresh air.

1. To all who referenced the Costa Concordia, did you read the article?
2. No mention of the copilot.
3. Was the plane taxiing when this happened or was the pilot able to land the plane, then exit?
4. Pretty big jump. Did he deploy the slide(s) or were they at a gate?

So many questions. Terrible article.

He just wanted to locate the source of the smoke, and direct the fire crews! Right!

I guess the rule of thumb is if the crew are running away the passengers should to. Nothing like a little chaos and panic to add to the number of casualties.

Not familiar with Vueling but I guess they are just contracted pilots, not like ones hired in bigger airlines.
What I am saying is they don't really value the employment, or usually fly cargo instead of passengers...Still a shitty move.

I think they are an ultra-low-cost airline. No excuse for the crew, who are trained and responsible for the safety of their passengers to behave as they did (if the account is true)

Vueling: Spanish airline, established in 2004, since 2013 part of the International Airlines Group, along with British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL. Fleet of 120 or so A320-family aircraft, operating in Europe, the UK, and parts of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. It’s a so-called low cost airline, similar to Spirit, Frontier, Ryanair.

I think (hope) this is the end of his (their) career for not following proper procedures, the same goes for the crew that followed him. Thy did not do the job they were supposed to do.

When you go through a staffing agency (Temp Service) to get your flight crew, make sure they are not French.

The Boeing evacuation checklists states the captain is the last off the aircraft after searching for any remaining pax.

Firefight training I received said to never give up your air (not oxygen) mask trying to rescue a casualty. So you can continue rescue without going down and needing rescue as well
DaveRK
DaveRK 4
Seriously??
Putting your mask on first is so you can continue to breath while helping another passenger with their mask, your both still on the aircraft.
That pilot just ran off the aircraft.
