Making aircraft fuel from sunlight and air
Scientists have built a plant that can produce carbon-neutral liquid fuels from sunlight and air. The next goal will be to take this technology to industrial scale and achieve competitiveness. Consider that it took only 24 years to get from the Wright brothers flight of 120 ft and 12 seconds to Charles Lindbergh flying across the Atlantic. It took another 40 years to fly the SR-71 at Mach 3+. I would not bet against some form sustainable jet fuel created from plants, biomass, algae, solar power or whatever. There is a lot money and research on the topic. I'm sure something will be work out sooner or later, maybe even from unicorn dung!
For all we know, ancient unicorn dung could be part of the fossil petroleum we now refine into jet fuel.
I can fly on 20-year old airplanes. My first C-150 trainer was 20 years old when I flew it, forty years ago lol!
An old joke is that airplanes fly because of FM. This is trying to prove it.
