When it comes to electric planes, the problem is not speed, but about endurance. RR was smart in picking an aerobatic plane as their electric showcase: it's showy/cool and has the lowest needs when it comes to useful load and endurance. A cool marketing gimmick.

Reminiscent of the Schneider Trophy days.

What, and when, was the first piston powered aircraft to reach that speed?

Aircraft reminds me of the Messerschmitt_209 - lots of engine with minimum airframe. Wonder if it is as scary to fly?

I suppose it has research and PR value.
