Here is the picture. Within sight of the snows of Kilimanjaro.

That is quite a terminal.

Thanx...that was taken from the "arrival and departures" desks I described below. Behind the white chairs is the "baggage room" and to the right of that the vending machines with "CocaLite", cold and plentiful. All and all a pleasant place.

It is a pity that we cannot post photos on this part of the blog for there is no way else to show how quaint this airport is. Arusha has over 1 Million people served only by three or four regional airlines plus safari charters. Two small three sided shacks only large enough for a small table and chair were connected by a wooden arch. They were labelled "Arrivals" on one side and "Departures" on the other. Airport "workers" were engaged in a billiards tournament at the open air bar, grill and newsstand under the thatched building next to the terminal between flights.

Lovely folks who could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Unfortunately the last time I was there, the end 1500 feet were dug up and only the Grand Caravans were operating with everyone else moving to JRO about 30 miles to the East. Obviously they have finished that work, but unfortunately the video did not show any of the "terminal area".

Love the people of Tanzania. I flew in via JRO so did not visit the Arusha airport but spent a little time in Arusha. Interesting place.

Another few feet shorter and he would not have made it.. Doing that fully loaded.. Crazy... those pilots would be looking for new jobs here in the states...

The text with the video says, "Keep in mind that a fully loaded 767-300ER requires about 2,713 meters (8900 feet) to take off."

It does NOT say that this take-off was made with the jet fully loaded. They were making a comparison between a maximum-possible weight take-off distance and this one (and how often does any airliner take off at the maximum possible weight anyway?).

How are you able to determine that "a few feet" made the difference between him making it and not making it? You can't see where the end of the runway is in that video, nor can you see how much runway was remaining when he took off.

What makes you think those weren't American pilots? They could have been. They often bring in speciliasts for such situations. We just don't know. But that didn't stop you from declaring a successful outcome as "crazy", did it?

What did all you armchair expert know-it-alls do before there was an internet?

Amazing!. They had painted over the Ehiopian Airlines lettering and its entire livery as if nobody knew whose 767 it was, tsk, tsk.

I guess if it hadn't of made it, no liability. LOL

They would still have had the same liability... Only thing they may have gained would have been less media coverage. Just like with a mentally handy capped pilot for skywest got into a CRJ-200, Taxied it through a gate, through a parking lot, and cross a road. They have to pick it up with a crane... First thing Delta did was to cover up the logo hoping the media would not find out.

Airlines frequently paint over crashed airplanes, so that pictures and videos of the crashed plane (with the company's logo visible) don't get circulated in the news, internet and other media.

SW didn't bother. Neither did Dreamlifter.

Asiana just whacked the tail completely off. Nothing to paint over.
