Porter confirms Bombardier deal, and wants to expand Toronto Island Airport

प्रस्तुत

Porter Airlines confirmed Wednesday that it plans to buy up to 30 CS100 jets from Montreal-based Bombardier, greatly expanding its reach with the potential to expand its service to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Florida and the Caribbean. The airline will seek permission to fly the longer-range jets out of the island airport, where the runway would need to be extended by 168 metres at each end. (www.cbc.ca) और अधिक...

What really sucks is the fact that Toronto people don't even want Porter to extend the runaway at Toronto Island Airport or buy jet planes. Those clueless people think that the new Crj 100 and C-Series are gonna make the most noise in the world. Smh...

This would be an excellent development from every conceivable economic perspective, but you can count on Toronto City Council to trash it by indecision or negative decision over the vital condition of lengthening the runway and lifting the ban on jet usage at Toronto City Airport - and that regardless of the technical argument that the new jets to be using this expanded facility, according to Porter's CEO on the radio yesterday, would be no noisier than the current turbo-props now using it; regardless, if "affected neighbourhoods" object (count on it, as there would be increased flight frequency), there will be a protracted battle with a track record of decision-making favouring the interests of the affected neighbourhoods rather than the community at large. That's how Toronto works, and one of the reasons why on a broader front this City has a 30 year deficit of transportation infrastructure, now badly affecting its economy and future economic prospects.

Congratulations Porter. Fantastic and imaginative thinking. I wish you success and hope you succeed. The wish for bringing this plan to reality is shared by many. By many I mean: The silent majority. Mark Segal in his comments outlined how this majority is represented by the heritage minded city fathers. Don't ever give up Porter.

Porter is a great customer centric organization and deserves success. If I were that other airline (uno-who) I'd be shaking in my cramped seats while attempting to eat the overpriced muck being served. Porter is uppity and their service is great, like airlines used to be before the bean counters took over.

It does not matter where one goes or what one is dealing with. They object to change, any change. The are satisfied with the status quo. And even if it would eventually benefit their children, they fail to consider that. Their only concern is themselves. Except ofcourse, when they end up in the hospital, then they want the latest and best uptodate diagnostic services that are available. For some strange reason, they do not accept the heritage type of services that they feel everyone else deserves.
