The grossest things flight attendants have seen passengers do

प्रस्तुत

I've heard from Sara Keagle, who has been a flight attendant for a major airline On a recent flight to Dubai, USA TODAY's John Siniff experienced a travel faux-pas. A passenger from across the aisle rested her uncovered foot on his carry-on bag. (travel.usatoday.com) और अधिक...

I recall being on an overbooked B-747 JFK-CDG where the upper deck toilet had developed plumbing problems mid-flight. Blue toilet water was running down onto the lower deck ceiling, then dripping down on top of passenger heads for the remainder of the flight. Where can you go?

Ok flight attendants have some stuff but Maintenance has found some doozies. Overnight check on a 747-400 found a used tampon in the seatback with the safety card and magazines ( not wrapped, bagged, covered what have ya ) also had to change the seat bottom cushions in that row.

Flying commercial is no different than taking a bus... same germs, same general public. It is not the elite type of transportation that it was years ago. Ah-choo!

I was seated in a Southwest 737 in the club seating at the front left cabin area (haven't seen those in a while!)and facing forward, aisle seat, across from a woman who didn't look quite right; I thought she may be ill. F/A came to me and asked if I would mind trading seats with the lady directly behind me since her kids were seated beside me in the club seats. Sure! No problem! Second row, aisle seat was fine with me! Lovely lady and I swapped seats. About 20 mins after takeoff the woman facing rearward in the club seat who didn't look so good started vomiting violently and sprayed the woman was was now in the seat I had previously occupied. I saw it coming and ducked behind her in my seat. I mean, this was just like the scene in the movie "The Exorcist"--she spewed all over the woman and the kid beside her just like a damned firehose! Seeing that I almost hurled, too! Jeez, what a mess! And the sick woman didn't even TRY to hit the bag or even grab one--she just sat upright and let loose! I can laugh now, but it was almost everything I could do to keep my lunch down where it belonged!

..........what is the matter with people.......
LeeBurk

What is the matter with people? What is the matter with people who will accept this sort of behavior without saying anything? Is everyone too afraid to confront those who act like this in public? These people need to be confronted. I've done it and been applauded by others. The lady who had her nasty foot on a fellow passengers bag should have been asked to remove her foot and place it back in her space and if she didn't then she should be told to remove it. It's time to get past being politically correct or being worried about being "offensive" when people act like this.

Just in case you are having a rough day, here is a stress management
technique recommended in all the latest psychological journals. The
funny thing is that it really does work and will make you smile.

1. Picture yourself lying on your stomach on a warm rock that hangs
out over a crystal clear stream.
2. Picture yourself with both your hands dangling in the cool running
water.
3. Birds are sweetly singing in the cool mountain air.
4. No one knows your secret place.
5. You are in total seclusion from that hectic place called the world.
6. The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade
of serenity.
7. The water is so crystal clear that you can easily make out the face
of the person you are holding underwater.......................

There!! See? It really does work... You're smiling already!

By the way "mass transit" sucks. Why? Because of the people! I'm sure the service would even improve a bunch if people acted with dignity and consideration.

I was on a evening commuter flight during the Christmas Season from DCA to ELM, A Swearinger narrow body prop, with One seat on either side of asile, probably 20 passenger max. Young woman mid twenties seated in front of me, we are 30 minutes from DCA and I see her raise her body up, about a foot, she sorta wiggles and then lowers herself to her seat..THEN...A stream of liquid starts running under the seat, passes my feet and continues after toward rear of plane..Yep..you got it !!!! no toilet facilities on plane and she had to relieve herself..I was so embarrassed, NOT FOR ME, but for her, what a Christmas present...

I was a flight attendant from 1972-1976 for the now defunct Braniff. The grossest thing that ever happended was a passenger brough a big bag of cheetohs on board to snack on, on an over two hour flight. They were in Coach middle seat about 1/3 the way back on a 727-200 and we were packed full. Inflight the call button was pressed an I went back to check. The person was airsick and the big bag of Cheetos was empty. I got a couple barf bags for them and the people around them looked worried. A few minutes later I hear a hubbub in that area and went back again. The passenger had vomited all over the back of the seat in front of them and it was bright yellow orange on the seat back, thru the crevises and onto the people sitting ahead of the and off course on the people seated next to them. It took the rest of the flight to get the people around them cleaned up. We left the mess on the passenger seat back for the cleaning crew. The smell was horrid....bile and Cheetohs. That was back in the cigarette days and everyone who had them, lit em up to cover the smell.

Remember - Adolph Hitler and Mother Theresa came from the same gene pool; Emily Post and the Cheetohs offender did too. Ya just have to steer yourself in one direction or the other; both sides of the behavior envelope will always be with us.

I'm sure glad I don't have to fly commercial very often. The article just shows how conceitedly offensive many people can be when they inflict such behaviors on other passengers.

A bit of context. The airlines flew a billion passengers last year and without even setting odds, there is an excellent probability that maybe a half a percent of those folks will do something weird--if even that many. Though a tiny fraction, it still is a lot of people and they also go to Target, stay in hotels, ride the subway and eat in restaurants where they most likely act in a similar fashion. Bad behavior by a few is neither new nor exclusive to airlines.

And the flip side should be represented by passengers who relate their stories of rude, boorish and indifferent staff who often rank high on the unacceptable scale as well. I still have clear memories of a flight attendant screaming at a passenger (in F, no less) that he had to remove his empty styrofoam cup from the seat back or be arrested.

We live in a complex and crowded world where people have different perceptions as to what is appropriate. What may be the norm in East LA is unacceptable in Malibu, until of course, the press reveals what is really going on in Malibu.

These kinds of stories are always good for shock effect and many are truly gross but what percentage of her total passenger encounters do these incidents represent? If you really want to see people behaving badly, visit Congress.

I was working a flight one day and witnessed a male passenger in his 40's picking his nose and wiping the boogers on the seat back in front of him. It took everything I had not to hand him a wet-nap and ask him to clean his mess off the back of the seat. I had just completed the drink service so it's not like the guy didn't have a napkin, not to mention he was seated near the lav and could have easily gone in there to pick and use a tissue!

I am not surprised in the least, all the things mentioned that have been done in flight, have been done in a limo or sedan as well. I am a chauffeur, and have seen many of these things, i have seen a chauffer dripping in vomit, smile, and ask if he could be of assistance . service, with a smile.

The age of discount low-fare airlines has given rise to the great Wal-Mart Hordes sharing the aircraft with the rest of us civilized people.

It's a simple fact: the lower the price, the ower the class of people.

I received a gate call once to replace a seat back cover. Row 34B and the aircraft was packed and ready to push. A woman had just wiped her baby's dirty bottom on the seat next to her. She was also wearing a tank top and cut off jeans and smelled worse that the cover.

On an all nighter from SEA to DFW a man was poking all the passengers around him with his finger. I had the flight attendants move people away from him so he could not reach them. That worked wel for awhile Later he stood up in he seat, lowered his pants and took dump in his seat. Then he sat down in it. He had a mental problem. We let him off in SLC.

several years ago I was flying Iberia Airlines home to the States departing from Madrid. There was a slow-down by the air traffic controllers that day and planes could not leave the airport. Soon the terminal became so crowded with passengers that there was no room for any more people to sit or stand. They began to lessen the crowded conditions by putting people on planes. Our group boarded the plane and were held at the gate for 2.5 hours with no air circulating and the plane doors open, the outside temp was close to 100. They continued to keep people happy by serving alcohol non stop. By the time we took off, urine was running on the floor of the bathrooms from stopped up toilets and we were headed out across the ocean. Several hours out, A woman died probably from lack of oxygen due to the high tempurature prior to take-off and they put her in the kitchen for the rest of the flight. Worst flight I have ever experienced!!

Some years ago, I was dispatching a well known Irish"No frills" aircraft back to Dublin from Liverpool. Being on a quick turnround, the outbound passengers were ready to board. As the last of the inbound passengers had disembarked, the flight attendants pointed to a large pool of vomit in the aisle. I told them there were no cleaners on duty as the airline did not pay for them. The attendants smiled and said "We will no be delayed!!", and poured hot water over the vomit, then put newspaper over it, and then two of them trod it all into the carpet, after spraying the area with their perfume. I was told they were "Ready for boarding", and the aircraft left ontime. The aircraft returned several hours later, and I asked them about the state of the carpet, and they replied "Its drying in nicely!!"

This one is not as gross as some of the others on here but more funny, and you have got to hand it to him for being practicl as i bet a lot of passengers would love to have the nerve to do the same....It was on a flight on a QANTAS 747 out of Sydney to London Heathrow and we had just departed Bangkok ready for the 12 hour transistion to London when this guy got up and got his cabin bag from the overhead locker, stripped down to his undies, and got a pair of pyjamas from the bag put them on and curled up in his seat and was asleep in minutes......... i laughed and said to my wife,ow there's a man with class...and by the time we arrived he woke up fresh as a daisy while the rest of us tired,,shattered..grumpy whatever else...you had to think who was the silly one .... just a thought ehh.

As passenger on AA flight from PHL to MIA, I was sitting in "business" class, first row-aisle on an Fokker 100. Passenger sitting next to me in window seat took out nail clippers at time of breakfast and decided to give himself a trim, followed by careful nail file. Once done, he had breakfast followed by taking out the weirdest looking device -like a pointed, bone-carved white toothpick on steroids- and proceeded to floss. I looked at him several times in disbelief but he did not seem bothered. To add insult to injury, MIA was closed for thunderstorms and deplaning was delayed 45 min more. The right side of my rib cage was sore for days as I leaned on it without noticing for almost all the flight.

Some years back as a "deadheading" airline Pilot from Brisbane to Singapore, I settled comfortably into my business class seat with Singapore Airlines, all prepared for an enjoyable seven hour flight until ..................

A guy of Asian descent was alongside of me and just as we lifted off he sucked up one almighty "greenie" from deep down in his lungs somewhere, rolled it round his mouth - for flavour I guess - and promptly swallowed it again.

And he did that every thirty seconds all the way to Singapore!!

Never missed a beat!!

OMG! With not a spare seat to move to, I endured this all the way!!

For the technically minded, that was about eight hundred and forty sinus-balls he dragged up!! Man needs a medal for that!!

From Darwin to Sydney - my window seat co-passenger was a lovely lady in a fur (in Darwin!) and beautiful perfume. Normally I'm seated next to a priest or an insurance salesman. I asked if the was going home to Sydney, she said no, it was a 3 month holiday that she took every year. I said she must have a good job to be able to take three months off and she replied that she was a hooker who worked the two best hotels in Darwin. She proceeded to explain that the girls hostessing the flight were stupid, because they were losing out on good income because their idea of a good night out was to con some guy into buying dinner for 4 of them, thinking he could take his pick, then saying goodbye at the reastaurant door. By now we had started to taxi. Rest of conversation is snipped.
Darwin had attractions. One day an engineer colleage and I eneterd an elevator in one of those hotels on level 6. There were 5 British Airways hosties, peaches and cream, who has changed into pool costume since we saw them arrive earlier. Five glamourous ladies lining the elevator, I said to my mate, "This is just like Christmas" Quik as a wink, one of the hosties asked "Which box are you going to open first?" I was speechless for 6 levels. Missed again - that was the gross part.

i was on an Air India flight on or about 2006 and was suffering from some serious gastrointestinal disorder. Anyways, during the descent i felt breathlessness and had severe chest pains and then I fainted....blacked out! When I awoke, the passenger beside me was propped up against the window and was covering his mouth and nose with a towel and had this look of absolute horror in his eyes! I wondered to myself what his problem was until i caught a wiff of smelly rotten, foul odour....and felt soaking wet in my trousers at which time I realized I had just shit myself!! Wow...what to do now? When I deplaned I headed directly to the handicap toilet and changed my trousers! I discarded the soiled levis dockers! That was a bad day for me.

When CO Airlines did Australia, was on DC-10 Pub Plane out of LAX. As we were loading, an Aussie bloke a row ahead was getting hit by his wife for being drunk. He soon blew chunks over himself and the seats (thankfully only the 2 on the side). He took off for the lav - and a maintenance crew came and quickly changed the cushions. The drunk came back covered in water - and passed out. We took off for HNL then onward. His wife was pissed the whole way. The cabin spray used worked fairly well, but I still chuckle about it.

Makes one want to drive if at all possible.
Generally, people are disgusting, self absorbed jerks who think the world revolves around their every whim.
However, it is the fault of the rest of us so called civilized people in that we refuse to tale a stand against these miscreants.
We no longer express shame against people that misbehave, annoy or infringe on our quality of life.
Fortunately I have not witnessed or been a victim of one these morons. Should it happen, the rest of you may read the headline "Irate Passenger on had enough, Punches fellow passenger" ....I am a laid back person ,but I don't take "S" from anybody either.

After 46 yrs as a aircraft mechanic for a major carrier I have seen a lot. One day my crew was working a at departure mechanical when the F/C FA advised a pax had dropped her cell phone in the F/C lav. Knowing fleet service was not quick to answer such calls, I took one for the company and wrapped a garbage bag on my hand and retrieved the cell phone. I wrapped the phone in the bag and gave it to the pax, who asked,"What should I do with it." I replied "Anything you want." This saved at least a half hour delay. The things you never know about.

After 46 yrs as an aircraft mechanic for a major carrier I have seen too much.My crew working a at departure delay was done when the F/C FA advised a F/C pax dropped her cell in the toilet. Knowing fleet service does not respond quickly to this problem, I decided to take one for the company. Wrapped in a garbage bag I removed the cell from the blue fluid. Wrapping it in the bag I returned it to the Pax. She wanted to know what she should do with it and I advised, " Whatever you want." This saved about a half hour delay. The things you nere know about.

About 20 years ago on a US domestic flight, in the days when cabin attendants still offered reading material to pax, a guy across the aisle in his mid-to-late 30s asked for "Playboy." The attendant quickly obliged him. After some 15 minutes of thumbing through the magazine, the pax rang his call bell. Holding several pages between his thumb and fingers and moving them back and forth, he said to the female attendant, "Could you bring me some talcum powder? These pages are all stuck together." (Surely they weren't.) "Why do you think that is?" he demanded, thinking himself cute and clever. "Huh?" The attendant politely ignored him and walked away as nearby passengers uttered low groans of disgust. That guy left no doubt that flight about how big a jerk he was.

Many years ago I worked for a major carrier part-time. After offloading our flights, we would go up into the cabin and clean it for the next morning's departure. I slid into one row to set up the pockets, clean the window/tray table, etc., and looked down to check the floor for any big trash. There on the floor were the leftovers from someone who had cut his/her fingernails and toenails right there in the seat. This just blew my mind.
