Other governments that literally have LIAT as their only air transportation, will not let it shut down.. They can't.
they will shut down if they dont get 5 million US from CARICOM.. if they do end up shutting down, caribbean will have to expand. Or another airline, or new airline, will have to take over. Which I don't mind at all.
when i said "caribbean" i mean't caribbean airlines. Sorry for the typo.
Easier said than done. If LIAT shuts down, parts of the Caribbean will be crippled in terms of air access, but many of LIAT's routes need government support as the service on its own is simply not financially sustainable. Taxes are a huge killer for inter Caribbean transport. Sometimes taxes can be twice as much as the base ticket price, which is honestly ridiculous. It would be a good move if BW held out till LIAT crumbled, but they should only take in the more profitable routes imo, as they themselves are also going through a bit of financial restructuring. I honestly don't think LIAT is going anywhere because of the "essential" service they offer to many of the Eastern Caribbean islands.
