A coroner says two people died after two planes collided at a northeastern Indiana airport. Grant County Coroner Chris Butche has identified the victims as the pilot, 31-year-old Kyle Hibst, and passenger, 31-year-old David Wittkamper, both of Elwood. They were members of the Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department. (www.chicagotribune.com) और अधिक...

The Citation had just landed, not, "was landing".

If I remember the rules correctly, especially on a non-towered airport, the C150 should not have attempted a take-off until the C525 had cleared the runway. One of the obvious questions for the NTSB, and likely not answerable, will be, "Why did he do that?"

Logic says the 150 pilot did not intend to have an accident so he did not know the 525 was a factor. The question becomes, why was that? Were both aircraft monitoring and reporting on the same and proper frequency? Was distraction involved? What was the 150's pilot capability and opportunity to see the 525 on the intersecting runway? With the 150 pilot giving a friend a ride, there was probably plenty of talking. Radio calls could easily be missed, not given, or both. If NTSB investigators are very very lucky there may be a cell phone or camera recorder available that recorded audio and video from the 150. Not uncommon for a flight intended for fun.
