Spanish airline Spanair runs out of funds, to cease operating

प्रस्तुत

MADRID — Officials in Spain say struggling airline Spanair will cease operations because a regional government can no longer supply it with funds. Spanair’s financial woes were exacerbated by a 2008 crash that killed 154 people. Eighteen people survived what was Spain’s worst aviation disaster in 25 years. (www.washingtonpost.com) और अधिक...

It is really a shame that more Spainish jobs are going down the drain. their unemployment rate now is ridculous and getting worst. Hopefully the other airlines will be able to pick up some of the layed off people.

There. That wasn't so hard was it? You can actually post something on here with out insulting anyone. Tomorrow, let's try putting on some big boy underwear and hopefully you won't have any accidents.

There is now lots of competition now particularly from Vueling which merged with Clickair. The quadrangle of BCN, MAD, Valencia and Palma Mallorca is absolutlely cutthroat for the Spanish airlines. Where competition exists, Iberia or its regional affiliate Air Nostrum are there to compete as well. Air Europa has bled off many of the longer flights to the Canary Islands.

Spanair had a very mixed fleet with few aircraft in their first decade of service. They tried all kinds of different combinations to find a market niche but always placed second or third or lower. The combination of low margins, old capital and lots of competition just killed off the low man on the totem pole to the surprise of none.

The insight that you seem oblivious to is my point that even in the last few weeks, they spared no expense while on the verge of financial collapse.

Hmmm, oddly mr. Jetson I don't see where you're coming from in regards to Dans original comments. IMO, He was simply stating that the airline continued to run with the same customer service and gratitude as it had when its outlook wasn't so dark.

Bragging? I dare not mention all the fine meals I have had in exotic places lest I too become a target of resentment.

Nice comeback. Original. This thread is tired. Let's move the grunt-slinging to a more recent topic.

All he did was provide a link to where the image was hosted. Had he actually reproduced it, then he would owe royalties. Please take your ignorance and crawl back into your hole.

Spanish newspapers were reporting that even before the MD-80 terrible accident in Madrid Barajas airport (150 dead) this airline was losing money heavily and its main shareholders SAS from Sweden decided to quit and ownership/control passed to the Catalunyan Sectional Government who subbornly kept it flying since but last week they decided to plug the hemorrage, all in line with the very stern directives from the European Union to the Spanish Government: you manage all budget appropriations wisely or else (no more bailout money.

Daniel thanks for your comments. I think they tried to do their best with the infrastructure they had. It was classy that they served you a mamosa so near the end. Please disregard the newbies comments as he doesn't quite get it yet. Here's hoping.

Sorry Mark clearly you don't. He was expressing his opinion and experience with an unfortunate airline that didn't make it. That you can get fired up or resentful of him for that demonstrates clearly...you don't get it. He has every right to comment specifically on his interaction with the subject in question just as you have the right to your own opinion. I like his opinion better :) and have now voiced my own opinion. b.t.w. where I swim shouldn't matter.

The airline was nearly 30 years old -- although I've never flown them, I did spent a few hours in their Barcelona lounge on New Years Day 2012 and it was business as usual as they served mimosas. Very nice place.

How much you or your host had to pay for the darn mimosa. I few weeks ago I flew with them Madrid to Bilbao and back same day Economy class cahrging Euros 780.oo for the ticket (expensive beyond believe!!!) and to top things off Euros 15.oo for a stale cheese sandwich and a bit warm coke. No. Daniel, in 30 years they did not get it. Too bad for the thousands of employees losing their jobs, pensions, etc.

Unless irlines really get down to providing an ejoyable and safe experience instead of gauging people and nickle and diming them to death--THEY TOO WILL FAIL>
