I really hope that more airlines go public with this type of action to recover the costs they incur as a result of passengers acting up.

Good on Avianca. Perhaps if more airlines followed suit, and sued for huge amounts, folks would get the message to stop being idiots on a flight.

Not saying they will get the message or Avianca will be successful for the full amount, but it is a great start point.

Sad that as of late, some FlightAware commenters spend more time critiquing squawk submissions rather than discussing aviation. It's usually those who never contribute otherwise that make the most noise. I'd say if you don't like what you see, do your part and submit links you deem appropriate.

People complain about paywalls, complain about submissions from casual content houses, complain about flight video submissions. Jeez.

Roger, your comments are well positioned. Let’s stay technical in our perspectives as pilots in order to address our deep concerns for flight safety and performance. The school children fighting during recess comments are meaningless and resolve nothing intelligently. My daughters still use the old description of verbal garbage as “they’re just masturbating their egos, Daddy.” Wisdom from the mouths of beautiful blonde young women! Take care people.

I have no knowledge of the Avianca case but I think that over-generous serving of alcohol in airport lounges and on flights contributes to bad behaviour by some passengers. Airlines are partly to blame.

Nonsense. This is a casual article, not an NTSB briefing. The author can and should offer their thoughts and surmises. Their thoughts and opinions are clearly distinguishable from purely factual recitations. It's all good.

Ditto! If the poster had bothered to read further and indeed, other gate-checked articles, he would have been more than aware that it is a casual podcast type if reporting, not the NYT or WSJ! And, as such, the author gives his personal opinion at the end of EACH article. Nothing to get all worked up about. It’s another social media delight, that’s all!
