Nice tail number - N408FE.

Well done, American assembly operations and well-done to P&W Canada.

I am sure the "single pilot" certification had a role to play in selecting this aircraft.

Probably. But it’s nothing new. Metroliners/Merlins Beechcraft etc. can be flown single pilot. Any time you can hire one fewer whiny primadonnas, it’s better for the bottom line. They are already flying pilotless Caravans, so get ready.

How stupid an answer there are plenty of twins that are single pilot. Many biz turboprops are done that way.

Not a stupid answer at all. Not many the size and weight of the 408. I work for a FedEx feeder and we received this aircraft Friday afternoon. It’ll be a recruiting magnet. Twin Turbine time is a lot more interesting for prospective pilots. The single pilot turbine twins close to this size you’re talking about (b350, b1900, dh6) are normally not flown with freight by relatively low time pilots. Fill this size aircraft with 19 passengers and you need a co-pilot. So yes, it’ll be something special. A 19000lbs, twin turbine that can legally be flown for part 135 by one pilot with 1200 hours. Not sure what FedEx requirements are going to be.

Used to work quite a few of both at my time at Memphis Center

I am pretty sure that experienced FEDEX Caravan contractor pilots moving up will recognize a lot of 208 stuff, to include the Garmin G1000 panel that came with 2008 and on builds and two of everything else that will make them happy as a dog with two units, and they will get a multi type out of the deal to boot.

The bump up to 43 lbs. psf. wing loading from 28 on the 208 will definitely soften the ride as well, so if you are a bump and grind middle of the night freight dog for FEDEX short routes, this will be a hit. Cheers and freight dog on!
