This had to have been done purposefully. Someone must have contaminated the water truck with Jet-A. They are very fortunate that this turned out good.

That is absolutely impossible, number one, it is a small connection and completely different from a refueling hose. The only way that can happen is if the water truck was filled with Jet-A. And it would take a complete imbasul to do that unless it was a terrorist plot.

Possibly an improvement over the typical airline coffee?

Whoever wrote the headline for this article is the one who confused some readers. Let's face it, the water tank was not actually filled with jet-A.

There's a big difference between filling the water tanks with jet fuel and filling them with water that has been contaminated with a few gallons of jet fuel. The first one would be much more noticeable to the lineperson than the second.

In the late 50's we had an even more frightening incident in JFK (Idelwild). ADI was loaded into the water methanol tank on a DC-6. On take off at about 100 feet all 4 engines quit. The Captain did a brilliant job of setting it down wheels up on a sand bank in Jamaica Bay. The tide was out and our maintenance crew managed to get floatations bags under the wings before the tide came in. However some salt water got into the belly and we had a load of electrical problems with this aircraft from then on.

Beats the hell out of the other way around... Water in the Jet A would've been a worse surprise.
