delta airlines is a large corporation with shareholders and thousands of employees and hundreds of thousands of customers..many large companies give group discounts to persons who might belong to say, aarp,or the american auto association,or federal or state employees, and yes, even other airlines employees and members of private pilots associations..these discounts are called "corporate' discounts, and apply to special promotions, extra flight miles on the frequent flyer programs and the like..i am certain that members of the nra will still fly delta, not for some promotions offered, but because delta flies where the customer needs to go..for the tax breaks delta has as a large employer in atlanta and the state of georgia to be threatened for a corporate deision amounts to t at of georgias

So 13 of the many thousand Delta passengers have used the NRA alliance. Seems to me the administration of the alliance would be costing Delta more than any loyalty it might provide. I wonder if the State of Georgia would have taken the same action if Delta had ended the alliance for pure business reasons?

So why aren't their values "for sale" now? The CEO's statement indicates they were for sale prior to the Parkland shooting.

I think the point is we all have to keep this in limelight. Yes, years ago things were different, one breadwinner, one homemaker/sargent at arms handing out discipline. Or the perverbial “wait till your father gets home!” Both countries handled guns differently than today and there was far more respect for life and limb. Now it seems it’s a me, me, and more me spoiled, you owe me and what can you do for me society. Deltas’ stand may be unpopular but any individual that puts their gun ownership above the welfare of a child just dosen’t get it and never will.

don't care about Delta's stand... just thought it will be interesting to watch.. not a real gun guy but agree that something major has changed in our society and it's not good...

My thought has always been that the CEO of any publicly traded company that alienates half their customers by getting involved in a highly politically charged issue is doing their stockholders a disservice and therefore doing a lousy job. Delta is not going to change the second amendment or the supporters of it. Certainly not gonna hurt the NRA; only the stockholders and possibly Delta’s bottom line.

13 NRA members have used the discount since it was offered. So, using your math, Delta only has 26 customers!
WALLACE24
WALLACE24 2
Not what I was talking about. Nothing to do with NRA. The country is fairly equally divided on gun issues. I also didn’t say they would lose half their customers. I said they could alienate half. So they might still fly with DAL but not agree politically.

half of their customers? Oh please! This won't hurt delta one bit. In fact, it'll probably help them.

Guess you didn’t hear they may lose $4 mil in subsidies.

That should read $40 million in the form of tax holiday on aviation fuel.

The USA does have 33,000 gun deaths per year of which 60% are suicide and 3-5% are accidental. The remaining are classified as homicides. The US rate is 10 per 100,000 which is considerably less than most of the Central American countries and Mexico.
If the number of homicides in four US counties were removed from the numbers (Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit and St. Louis) the USA would rank below average for national prevalence. Even just removing Chicago (a gun free city)the USA would be just above average.

Compared to 22 other high-income nations, the United States' gun-related murder rate is 25 times higher. And, even though the United States' suicide rate is similar to other countries, the nation's gun-related suicide rate is eight times higher than other high-income countries.

Take your fake statistics and leave, the world has enough fake news as it is.

You might look up the data before you fall off your soap box. You can always manipulate your statement by defining high income countries, but my posting was in response to Cansojr's statement that did not specify that but all countries. Unfortunately that was down voted.
Here is the data reference for the entire world. Contained within you will find a data sheet which indicates your 25 times higher statement is confabulation.

John, since this thread has progressed past DAL let me reveal to the libs/ anti gun group a well known fact. The Civilian marksman program (cmp)just received 107,000 rifles and pistols from Turkey. These are military pieces on loan to that country by the US military. They will be sold to the general public through their 2 stores. 150,000 more are coming from the Philippines and SOKO. Most of these are semi automatic and and all military issue. Every democratic /anti gun congress person knows this(or they are incompetent ). Bottom line: if you are looking for gun reform from the feds, dream on.

Everything he said is true, and verifiable through the FBI UCR. How blinded to an issue do you have to be to imply a suicide is somehow worse because a gun is used? How about Japan, which outstrips the USA in suicides and has all but banned firearms, are these somehow "better" suicides? This is a tragic statistic regardless, but people will take the easiest method available to them.

in the 1950s and 1960s you could buy a semi-auto M1 carbine with a 30 rd clip out of a catalog... and get it dropped on your front porch 10 days later...no background check -- $25... and no shootings like now... it's because of liberals like you that pleased the looneys from institutions and baby the criminals that we have these problems.. seen any NRA members involved? seen any CCWs involved.. please stay in Canada or wherever you are

REAGAN dismantled the mental health system in the USA, but thanks for trying to look intelligent even though you failed miserably.

You and your "criminals" attitude..it wasn't a "criminal" who legally owned a gun who shot the students at Parkland..he legally owned those guns even thou he had been diagnosed as not all there.
Yea..you bought out a surplus or end of war gun out of a NRA catalogue and had to be 21..mind explaining why it is folks need a semi-automatic military rifle??..and do you have 1st hand knowledge that non of the shooters were NRA or CCW (whatever that is)?
This BTW is an aviation forum, so best we keep it at that!

Follow your own advice then. This is an aviation forum. Typical hypocrite that you are, you fire off your opinion then run like a child shouting ‘this is an aviation forum’

I wasn't being a hypocrite and do not appreciate your insinuation that I always am. I posted my thots of what a few posters stated, questioned Tom about his " it's because of liberals like you that pleased the looneys from institutions and baby the criminals that we have these problems.. seen any NRA members involved? seen any CCWs involved." statement, said my peace of this being an aviation forum and left.
I am wondering, thou, how it is I am the 1 who dodged an argument? I stated the truth about a shooting, asked why the need of semi-automatic rifles and is there evidence that certain members were not involved in something, when in fact my questions were the 1's getting dodged Then you come on, basically insult a person instead of answering a few questions, and get high votes for it.
