I think this over the top flight is a prime example of why we can't solve climate change. 85 miles! Lunacy. For many years, if you wanted to fly from EWR to ABE, United provided this service on a bus.

At the very least, it proves that Western Europe has it right by mandating trains for flights less than two hours.

Agreed. As much as I love to fly, 85 miles? Come on.

I can drive anywhere in a 100 mi radius in less time than it would take to drive to the airport, park and all other required Hoo ha. Need to consider the cost of providing the service against reliable traffic estimates as well as carbon footprint. If a given flight looks like it’s gonna go with four people on board or empty just to relocate the aircraft for return leg, the airline should just call an Uber for them or point them to a bus if the route is there. Rail travel in this country was deliberately and meticulously hobbled by competing interests and should built rebuilt where passenger density supports it. My mom hated flying and, as a result, I have many great memories of cross-country Amtrak excursions. Southwest Chief. Pullman cars. Club car late night solitaire. That’s not to say that travel to Europe on the Queen of the Skies wasn’t a good memory as well but air travel was a different animal then. Now it just mostly sucks, often filling one with anxiety well in advance of actual travel.
