Why was it necessary to switch tanks on climb-out at such a low altitude, and why didn't the pilot(s) switch back to the good tank when the engine faltered? Asking as a non-pilot.

You don't switch tanks on climbout unless unexpected mechanical circumstances dictate. Takeoff checklist states fuel selector to "proper" tank and fuel pump on until 1000'AGL. Bottom line is the pilot did a great job setting it down safely.

Pilots did what they had to do.
The lead pilot, Ibrahim, said he credits his pilot training for helping him land the plane safely.
"Just stick to your flight training and follow everything. You may think it won't happen to you, I never thought it would happen to me, but it did." "Aviate, navigate, communicate"

I had a look for C-GNBP and the first thing that pops up is a YouTube video referencing the plane landing on the 407 with ATC -- couldn't say if it's accurate but I thought to link it here in case it is.

I don't know if the video is B-Roll or is from the this flight? This is where I feel the legitimacy is questioned

Looking at it more, I think it's a flight sim video... wish I could edit my comment.
