Airline boss over-hiring to beat staff exodus

प्रस्तुत

The boss of US low-fare carrier JetBlue has said it is necessary to over-hire staff, because of the rate at which people are still leaving the industry. Robin Hayes was speaking as thousands of travelers have been hit by recent disruption - caused largely by staff shortages that have blighted the re-start of air travel after the pandemic. If employee turn over is costing a lot of money then maybe look at employee retention. Better pay, benefits and conditions are cheaper then constantly training new employees and having them leave befor they have hit their stride.

Maybe it’s the pay and conditions. But of course don’t let that stand in the way of a good conspiracy theory based on the dumb musings of an idiot who can type.

I really enjoy reading this blog every Friday. Can we please keep the politics out of it.

Thanks for complaining about the Covid vaccine on a flight based website. As if we don't see enough of that. And... Thanks for going off topic. As to the post itself, I expect more airlines to do something similar in the future if they want to remain in business.
I'm totally blind but still... I would love an aviation based job.

I would think that some of the problem is that employers (even the airlines) were very quick to kick people to the curb under the guise of Covid. I work in the pilot training biz. Trump declared an national emergency due to Covid on a Friday. On the following Monday the company was laying people off. This demonstrated what the company thought of people, even those that had been there many years. I'm sure plenty of other companies behaved in a similar way. Why rush to go back?

On the one hand, ramping up staff numbers would be a great help for getting newcomers' airline careers started. On the other hand, quality of service will very likely take a nosedive as a consequence for a good chunk of time.

He was referring to "ground personnel". But let your imagination think otherwise.

I quit flying after 21 years about 12 years ago because I was burned out on being gone all the time, losing friends and wives because I was seldom available etc. Flying for a career is not as glamouras as most people think. Long days, a lot of boredom and stupid politics and unruly passengers. These days people aren't interested in working. It's much easier to live in mom's basement and let her do the heavy lifting. Shame on her too.

BTW, I opened my own business and have the same troubles as all employers. Young people are feckless, riding the wave of those of us who made their life easy to be easy. One day they will have to stand on their own and they'll be lost.

There are a lot of young people who lack ambition and work ethic but I think that has been a problem every generation has faced. It’s easy to see the ones who are going to get no we’re in life but please also notice the ones who are working hard and succeeding at life. As a small business owner I see both and try my best to help the good ones get ahead in life wile knowing I am going to have to deal with the other ones.

I'm in my early 60's and I lack ambition and a work ethic. So it's not just young people.

But then, I'm retired.

The children now love luxury: they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers. Socrates

Socrates had his share of unruly students. As kids they may have been nasty but pupils like Plato, Xenophon, Antisthenes and others grew up and influenced the world so profoundly that they are remembered today. History won’t know which kids of today will be remembered 2600 years from until long after we are gone.

Don't waste your time on basement dwellers. Hire a vet. Of course pay them well and take care of them and they will take care of you.

Vets are good workers but wouldn’t all those years of college be better used healing animals then handling baggage?
Just kidding. Veterans come with their own baggage not only for what they delt with in service but also their treatment after their government is done with them.

I am glad someone other than me has seen the laziness of America rapidly get worse during the Pandemic.

Most of us are not anti-vaxers......
TimDyck

No but most of the people who didn’t get the COVID19 vaccines are not anti vaxers either, they just don’t want this one. Their reasons vary but should we persecute them? Why can we not just accept that they have the right to choose what is best for them? COVID19 may be very contagious but it has a low mortality rate and is hardly worth the social divide the vax nazis have created over it.
I’m vaxed but it was my choice and I will defend the right for others to make their own choices.
