Pilots raise alarm at Qatar Airways for doctored hours, hidden fatigue
Pilots at Qatar Airways say the state-owned airline is under-counting their work hours and ignoring complaints of fatigue - a safety breach that hurts staff health and risks passenger lives. The testimony demonstrates how worker abuse extends even to the Gulf nation’s high-skill industries, as Qatar Airways (QA) tries to minimise crew downtime. “This is obviously a huge health and safety issue for the pilots themselves - and the people they’re flying,” said Isobel Archer of the Business and… (www.reuters.com) और अधिक...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
There are serious issues with how the flight crews are being treated at Qatar Airways. Check this reuters link: https://www.reuters.com/article/qatar-airlines-fatigue-trfn-idUSKBN2K11CS.
I have worked for over 40 years in the airline industry with European and Asian carriers in various positions including, flight operation, weight & Balance, ramp operation and as a duty manager at British Airways and EVA Airways (Taiwan based) and have noticed that while some Asian carriers will cut corners but majority of the Asian carriers like EVA Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Cathy Pacific to name a few has one of the best safety and maintenance policies in place and have first hand notice and been told by American carriers maintenance staff working on these carriers have mentioned to me often as to why these carriers take all work no matter or small so very seriously where as local American carriers would differed such repairs to be done when the aircraft returns to the airline base. Since I have not worked for any Middle East based carriers I cannot vouch for there maintenance record.
If this was about Ryanair Crew, nobody would be surprised.,
Like the paint on the A350, when you peel back the layers at Qatar, it’s pretty ugly.
PS: I suspect the paint issues are partly due to Q’s maintenance methods.

Visited with a Qatar pilot in SEA while waiting for a van to the airport from the hotel. He was not a happy guy. I am a retired American pilot and speak the lingo. He was an FO and has his put in his resignation and will go back to farming.
His issue is fatigue. He says he works 26 out of 30 days a month. They all took a 60% pay cut due to COVID. They do turns to China from Doha. Nine hours there, 2 hours on the ground and eleven hours back. With an augmented crew they can work 22 hours straight.
I used to fly to China from DFW with a crew of four and our duty day was sixteen. After one of those days, you just fell into bed totally spent.
There are abuses here and being hidden

Yet they win awards for best airline rather often, can anyone say money under the table?
Also, part of me thinks their A350 paint issues are self inflicted to try and get favours from Airbus.
Waiting for them to fall out with Boeing again.

Qatar or any middle eastern country for that matter is not known for their honesty, ethics and human rights practices.
The blatant bribery scandals behind award of the 2022 Football World Cup venue, should serve as a reminder. It was utterly shameless.
The "Best Airline" designations are based on customer related services and experiences only and not on business operational factors. We should not be surprised if it later comes to light that they bribed their way to it.
Qatar, Emirates and Etihaad are all state subsidized airlines and have highly unfair competitive advantage that any one hardly talks about.
