FAA Restricts U.S. Airlines From Flying Over Afghanistan

प्रस्तुत

U.S. airlines will have to get special permission to fly over Afghanistan because there are no longer air-traffic controllers overseeing the skies under the new Taliban leadership, aviation regulators said late Wednesday. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a legally binding notice to U.S.-licensed operators requiring that they notify the agency before flying over Afghan territory. The FAA action comes as the U.S. military is engaged in a mission to evacuate American citizens, people… (www.msn.com) और अधिक...

Probably a wise move given how all US defensive weapons have fallen into the hands of the Taliban who do not respect the niceties of conflict and have nothing to lose shooting down an airliners.

Taliban will want to be internationally recognized as the legitimate government, so they would have a lot to lose by shooting down an airliner: retaliatory military strike, trade sanctions, condemnation from other countries, diplomatic isolation, for starters.

On another note, only US flag passenger flights I can find that would overfly Afghanistan are United services between Newark and Mumbai (perhaps there are also some cargo services), so closing this airspace doesn’t seem to be a big disruption of US flag air commerce.

you don't seriously believe they give a rip what other countries think of them, do ya?

The GOP doesn't. America is so bankrupt, and yet 'let's spend more money on the war'.

Every gun and military plane built is money stolen from the public good. Fighting wars does not make a country great.

you might want to check the news over the last 6 months and see who has been printing money like it's on fire - and also see which political fence is perpetuating war. As a rule - your post is off pretty much by 180 degrees.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the new moniker of this mineral rich country is fully supported by the Communist Chinese government.
No amount of bluster from the weak knee jelly spine Biden administration would so much as equal a flyspeck.

Nevermind there not being air traffic controllers. Now the Taliban has the means to shoot down anything in the air. Thank you mr. biden.

you mean our former president that made a deal with them and had 5000 taliban freed from jails last year!

Oh, and former president Dick Cheney who sent trillions of dollars of equipment to Iraq and Afghanistan, and left it all there. Bush/Cheney/GOP saw the opportunity for those wars to hobble the country, and went all in on blowing as much money as they could. Through dumping weapons they didn't need, to paying huge salaries to private corporate mercenaries, they spent money like it wasn't theirs. That led to 'sequestration', and mandatory spending cuts in this country.

America has a rich history of making its own worst enemies, and arming them at our own cost. You'd think that people would get wise about the way the military industrial complex wags the US Treasury as its own private piggy bank. We spend so much money for weapons we don't need, and are abandoned. It's like the plan is TO supply the terrorists so they have something to run against in the future.

Neither of those wars should have ever happened. Afghanistan, after all, ruined Russia, and led to their collapse. We haven't learned a damn thing... What other needless war will DC be lead to by the nose by the money changers?

President CHeney?
I'll give you a hall pass that this is a typo.
Now, you are uninformed and obviously are a true believing dyed in the wool leftist who will say/write anything to protect Biden and his regime.
You show a complete disconnect from the facts.
No further discussion with you will occur.

Just slightly outside of the FAA's jurisdiction.

And they already issued a relayed NOTAM which doesn't even expire until the end of the month anyhow. The aviation regulatories in that region are taking care of the matter - and it is well outside the FAAs purview. Sorry. They need to leave it to the locals/regionals.

How exactly do you ppl think they are going to shoot commercial airlines down? They do not have anything that would do that. Y'all are tripping over seriously old weapons and gear they have. Biden by the way, did not do shit. Funny how everything crying wolf is forgetting that we have been giving our old weapons and gear to 3rd world countries for yrs. Also that once we do that it is no longer our responsibility to care for the stuff, i.e. not let it get into the hands of the bad guys. We did not allow that to happen. The Afghan President and his army did when they acted like pussies and ran off with their tails between their legs instead of trying to defend their country!

The age of a weapon has nothing to do with it's ability to fire the round. A 556 coming out of a Vetinam era M-16 hits just as hard as one being fired from an M4A1 with an ACOG on it. We have left planes, helos, small and medium arms (including S2A shoulder-fired rockets), plenty of heavily armored vehicles and so much ammo there for the Afghani "military" that they are one of the best equipped militaries in the region. There is a reason why the Taliban are leaving their old weapons behind and picking up the US & allied forces gear that was left behind.

Jennifer, you apparently have internet access, so why wouldn't you do a little basic research about weaponry capable of shooting down aircraft. These maniacs are still using the same old 3rd world shoulder fired weapons (and US supplied Stingers) that shot down Soviet helos and support aircraft for years. Now they have probably come into possession of even more sophisticated weapons.Do you not realize how ridiculous your comments are?
