Trump’s Visits Ground Business at Small New Jersey Airports

प्रस्तुत

HANOVER, N.J. — More than the sound of Cessnas and private jets at Morristown Municipal Airport this week was the buzz over the impending arrival of President Trump, who would be flying in for another weekend stay at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., where he spends time in the summer. Now you know how 18 airfields and their pilots have been feeling in Chicagoland for nearly the last dozen years - and for future years to come anytime O comes to visit. Yeah, it's a huge PITA - but it has nothing to do with who specifically is in the plane. The same problem (and it is certainly a problem) has existed for decades and past presidents - and it will exist for future presidents as well.

This is not a Trump controversy anymore than it has been an Obama controversy. Politicizing this is flatly stupid and exhibits an agenda. Focus on the real problem at hand.

Another aviation website going by the wayside. I'm sad to see it happen.

FA used to be a great aviation website, meaningful discussions on aviation topics with serious input allowing for aviation enthusiasts at all levels to share their experiences, questions and knowledge. Unfortunately, it is morphing into a political website as seen in this squawk and many others.

And this is different than any other president ?? All was business as usual when Obama and Clinton visited their haunts?
macsurety
macsurety 4
That is a fair question. I'd be interested to know if it was any different for any of the previous Presidents - Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, etc.

Right on point there. I noticed that right off the bat.

The difference may be the frequency of trips to the same location which happens to be in a congested area. In any event, there seems to be no difference in the rules being used.

I seem to remember President Clinton flying into the San Jose area quite often [I think they used Moffett Field], when he made frequent visits to see Chelsea at Stanford and to visit his moneyed base there. The fact that the reporter does not make an explicit point about a difference in frequency - only offering a short quote at the end of the article suggesting no differences across Administrations - suggests to me that President Trump does not have a greater frequency of visits. If he did, then I would expect the reporter would have used that information to further stoke the flames of controversy.

Sad day when an article like this makes the list. Way off the center line of aviation. h

This is a classic example of the news making a story about nothing. This has been going on since Presidents started using airplanes to go from place to place. Before that it was the railroads. This is a not a story at all.

I have read the same complaints regarding private aviation in the area surrounding trumps mar a lago resort in florida..its a bit like closing down businesses on a busy street for more than one day to prepare for a parade!

I think this issue is that we tax payers are paying for Trump to stay at his own "Trump National Golf Club" … in other words a conflict of interest that otherwise would NOT be a conflict of interest with other sitting presidents that have "FULLY" flushed themselves of such conflicts. For example Reagan, Clinton, Bushes, Obama, etc. either sold businesses and/or ceded the a independent authority and some Presidents went even further and but all their assets in a blind trust. Trump however did not. Trump had promised to place all his assets in a trust, but what actually happened is Trump setup a Trust controlled by his son but Trump is the sole beneficiary. Anyway, that's why this is a big issue, conflict of interest at the tax payers expense.

So the country should only be led by career politicians, lawyers and community organizers all who are suddenly rich leaving office. Frankly we need someone who can generate a dollar by means other than reaching into my pocket.

I will remind Rob that Reagan x 2, Bush Kennedy all used their own properties in addition to Camp David while Obama shut down Hawaii at least twice yearly.along with the Vineyard during the summer.

This isn't anything new, unfortunately. Remember when the then-new President Clinton 'closed' LAX (Not intentionally,I don't think) while getting a haircut on AF1? Air tours businesses were crippled in Hawaii when Obama was visiting, though some sort of agreement was established as I recall.

It's one of my peeves: Presidents travel FAR more than needed. It's wasteful and disruptive.

There was also a very large crowd of people there, I mean a very, very ,very large crowd of people. It was the biggest crowd of people ever to watch a sitting president walk around and make motions to folks, but don't forget it was the biggest crowd of people in the history of history I mean it was BIG!

Herbert Hoover must have upset the locals in the Virginia mountains when he stayed at his fishing camp. Probably shut down all the moonshine stills for 20 miles around and put a hole in the local economy.

It’s what happens when you elect a president that has zero connection with the people that elected him. Even Trump followers have zero in common other than “change by lack of civility, lack of knowledge and lack of understanding” they just want change and their vote gives them that right. Education gives everyone a fair vote but they should exercise that right carefully. I don’t care where he goes or how often, I care how he represents the country and it’s ideals. Trust me if he goes off the rails very often, he will be replaced! Until then, voice your opinions and BTW I would rather him shut down MMU than EWR for a golf game,

What does anyone expect from a left leaning rag like the NYT? It's just another one of their various and sundry Trump hit pieces. I had to put up with it when Obama was in office and there was NEVER an article written about it. I don't call it fake news, it's JUNK news.

Just look at the "controversies" that can be ginned up when a swamp is drained. There would not be a drop of ink used by the NY Times if Hillary spent a weekend out of town.

Why do you have to further make this political? This is a problem that has existed for decades and will continue to do so - regardless who is in the WH and who is riding in the plane. This is not the place for your political agenda.

You didn't have to. You said the president - and right now there is only one. Making a broad stroke statement that he is crippling the aviation industry is flatly false.
carpcoppondpig
nick gorham 1
Semantics, but saying "a President" would be false. Former Presidents are still referred to as "President." But they do not get the TFR protection.

How about, "Where ever a sitting President is, no matter who or their party affiliation, they are crippling the local aviation industry."

Is that better? By the way, slow your roll. I voted for Trump in the primaries. I voted for Trump in the general election. I'll vote for him in 2020 if he runs. Attacking others is NOT the way to draw them to our side.

I’m amazed at how many liberal losers show up here. Your girl lost, so get over it. Your continued sour grapes rhetoric has become treasonous and is damaging this country. All because your candidate lost. The country hired President Trump because he has the guts to make the changes we want. We know he isn’t perfect, as none of us are. Please consider the damage you are doing to the stability and future of this country. No doubt one day your candidate will be President, and we will support them. You should do the same now, for all our benefit.
