Sounds like Mr. Horton's Golden parachute may get tainted

I dunno - I'm just an average individual but sometimes I think maybe a bit less than average when it comes to understanding business. Somehow, to me, it just doesn't seem quite right to sit at the helm of an airline (any kind of company, actually), fail at your job so completely that your company falls into bankruptcy, and then be rewarded with 19 million bucks for doing so. I swear, the more I read the less I know.

Well, you are probably correct and regardless of what they do, I can't see any individual beig woth that kind of money. That said, Horton was given the helm after it had been plundered and ran in the ground by his predassessors; there was no choice except BR and it was widely known that he had long been in favor of the BR route before he was handed the CEO job, so it was no surprise that it happened. His job was to maximize the $ to the stockholders, employees be damned and that he has done. It was the AMR board that set that deal and it was the BR law that allowed him to do it legally. It may not be right or moral, but it is legal.

Yeah, I realize that and agree with some of what you've said. I'm without a doubt biased on the topic since as is common knowledge by now, I was with America West when it was in big trouble. But then Bill Franke came on the scene specifically tasked with pulling it out of bankruptcy - which he did! Granted the man's a shark, but a shark's what's needed to clean up other people's messes. In my view, that's what earns golden parachutes.

Well, that's what Horton did, clean up other peoples messes but I still yet don't think anybody is worth that kinda money.lol. ttyl. outa here.

This is pretty standard. He'll get his Parachute, albeit at the same rate as the creditors if they play this right. The whole reason the creditors pushed so hard for this merger is to avoid the pennies on the dollar payments that bankruptcy affords. They can now expect full payment from the combined carrier. That said, Horton will most likely get his full payment as well. If creditors settle for %.50 on the dollar, then Horton will collect a measly $9.5m. Boy it must be rough.

That would be tough to take but I figure that paltry sum would get him a nice suite out at the track if he is a race fan.LOL, Hell, he might even have enough left to buy a bag of ice from you.lol

Actually the creditors are trading their losses for stock so their return will be entirely predicated on how the new entity does.

Great line from one of the comment posters about Tom Horton...suggesting he will start a competing line of coffee shops named after himself. This will appeal to Canadians who continue to flock to "Tim Horton's Coffee Shops" conveniently located on every corner East of British Columbia.

If that is the case, obama will bail them out when they do.

With this news hitting the media, I wonder if AMR will continue to down play a mereger, or can they still "opt out" .. Would be surprised if shareholders said, No. Let's see how the interfacing works out with the two computer systems. (re:UA and CO mess)
