ANA Bumps 787 Engine Into Jetbridge

प्रस्तुत

All Nippon Airways has admitted that its first Boeing 787 suffered some slight surface damage to its engine inlet cowl after it hit a passenger boarding bridge. The incident took place while ground crew were towing the aircraft, JA801A, on 13 October, said the spokesman. He added that the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000-powered aircraft suffered only surface damage, and that it resumed regular flight tests on 14 October after the company did some checks. Oh man. That first scratch on a new car/boat/plane is always painful. :( Especially when it still has that "new plane smell".

C`mon guys, don`t try to make up a storm in a glass, this is a $ 10 job, half for buying some duct tape and varnish and the rest is labor (Ha-Ha-Ha)

Well that's a mighty fine way to start off the 787 legacy...

They ought to just give a hammer to the President of the company, instead of a champagne bottle, although that would work too, let him take a whack at it while stil at the factory and get the first boo boo out of the way. Oh, that's right, then they would have to get a discount for known damage history....

John Donaldson: Repairs may be closer than you think! Mitsubishi Industries manufactured the carbon fiber wings for the 787

Good point...I was thinking primarily of whatever technology is used in the pressurized compartment, but certainly the tail and wing components like human nose are most likely to be damaged on the ground as they hang out.

It does raise an interesting point though...local repairs may well be like buying a fiberglass car....the fifty dollar scratch becomes a four digit project. Doubt the intake on the pod is fiber material but if so, that skin is unlikely to be repaired by locally available technology. Boeing may well have to create a standby crew not unlike some of the oil service firms like Schlumberger that travel the world in a specially fitted "shop" aircraft repairing oil rigs.

Tom, that was BAD!!! But, I just wish I'd come up with it first! They don't have to worry about which kid will ding it first anymore. Now, it's just another airplane.

isn't that the job of the ground crew to ensure that doesn't happen? You're FIRED!
