Naples Airport (FL) to open an observation deck!

While Naples added an observation deck, Boeing Field, in Seattle has closed the main spotters viewpoint known as Midfield.

I gotta get my 3yr old daughter one of those little airplane rocky horse thingy's!

Pretty cool:) There used to be a place at CYUL - inside the airport - where you could look out and see all the ramp and gate activity, but no more. Coincidence or not, they took away the windows after 9/11 and now you look at walls. I know there is security issues and maybe the Airport does not want a bunch of people hanging around in one area - aside from people waiting for arrivals; though, having an observation deck would help in getting young people interested in the industry - instead of standing out in a field like i do, lol:)

Reminds me of the park/observation deck at VGT. There's a playground there with a nice water fountain, tucked between the approach ends of runways 7 and 12R. Very nice place.

What I hope they do here, like they do at VGT and LAS, is broadcast Tower's comms over FM radio. That would make it worth it.

KGRR has a nice spotting park too.

DFW has one, Founders Plaza. (http://www.dfwairport.com/founders/) It used to be on the south-east side but was relocated to the north-west side a few years ago. If you know anything about Dallas you know that the large majority of the time we are in a south flow, so an observation area on the south side of the airpot is pretty useless. Now that its on the north side you have a FANTASTIC view of the goings-on at one of the world's busiest airports. They even have binoculars and pipe in ATC over loudspeakers.

Dixon Observation Area at KBWI just off Dorsey Rd is a nice place as well. Great park for the kids as well as right on the cycling/walking path that surrounds the airport.

Always nice to see observation decks being opened. I agree with Jeff P. KBWI has the Tom Dixon Observation area and is well worth the visit. I have been there several times.

CYHZ has great observation deck with elevator service to main departure area. It is glassed in but offers spectacular views of entire airport with exception of Regional Jet gates. This airport wins awards for service, efficiency and passenger convenience every year. If you think back to 9-11 YHZ and the people of Halifax hosted 40 trans Atlantic aircraft and 7500 passengers who were fed and housed by the community. Many return regularly to enjoy the Nova Scotia hospitality (and great beer).

Boeing closed their observation deck? Well, at least now I know who to root for (Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier) when it comes to new orders. Let's hope Boeing, it's CEO and its union workers take it in the shorts, wallet and right in the face. No need for spotting at Boeing Field if they planes they make/sell fall precipitously. They will get their karma.

Or maybe Boeing don't want spotters because it gives visual eveidence as to how ridiculously behind schedule their planes are. Or maybe they didn't want people taking photographs of the upper management taking bribes from Chicago officials.

Now only if MEM can make one! They're building a pretty near 4 story high parking garage that might be my new spot when it's completed...I hope at least.
