Formula One Gran Prix brought thousands of visitors to Austin, now they're racing to airport to head home.

Bryce Dubee is the spokesperson for the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. He tells CBS Austin that ABIA is expected to set a new record for the single busiest day of passenger traffic.

"Historically every year, the Monday after Formula 1is our busiest day by far," said Dubee.

Dubee says this year is no exception. "We're actually looking to break that record. We're looking at somewhere between 35-36,000 passengers. So, we're not just going to just break that record, we're going to go way past it," explained Dubee.

The previous single day record was about 31,000 flyers, which was set the Monday after an F1 race in 2019.

"We're really encouraging passengers to pay attention, make sure they have a plan when they're heading to the airport to give themselves time," added Dubee.

The sold out F1 weekend brought 100,000 racing fans to the Circuit of Americas. "To see the cars, to see the fans, to just see everyone having fun, it was just an incredible experience. There was just so much to offer," said Kim, a Wisconsin native and racing fan.

While most fans are heading back home, those like Kim were happy to spend time in Austin. "It was great, everything was so organized, even though there was a lot of people. Everything was so organized," she said.
