The Emirates Airline is one of the most recognizable names in the aviation industry. Founded in 1985, it has since grown to become one of the world’s leading international airlines, offering flights to over 150 destinations in more than 80 countries across six continents.
The airline was established by the Dubai government under the directorship of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The airline has enjoyed a number of important milestones throughout its history. In 2003, Emirates became the youngest airline to operate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest commercial aircraft. This was followed in 2005 when the airline took delivery of its first Boeing 777-300ER, which was the world’s longest range twin-engine commercial aircraft. In 2014, Emirates launched the world’s first non-stop flight to the United States from the Middle East, with a service to Los Angeles.
The airline has also been involved in a number of incidents throughout its history. In 1990, one of its aircraft was hijacked by Somali pirates, while in 2001, an Emirates Airbus A330-200 was involved in a runway overrun at Melbourne Airport. In 2016, an Emirates Boeing 777-300 crashed after making a hard landing at Dubai International Airport, resulting in the death of one person.
