Great shot growing up around McGhee Tyson where those birds come im my account there is a picture of the cockpit when I got a tour of one of them! Really Great Shot.
Rick, this KC-135R Stratotanker is USAF s/n 57-1451. Your recent photo shows it serving with the Tennessee ANG. I'm seeing elsewhere a circa 2004 photo showing it with the California ANG and upgraded to "R" configuration by then. Joe Baugher's published information show it even earlier with the Alaska ANG circa 1992 at which time this KC-135 was an "E" model. She was originally built as a KC-135A, with a Boeing assigned MSN 17522, according to Mr. Baugher's notes!
This same KC-135R Stratotanker, USAF s/n 57-1451, is seen in a 2004 dated photo by photographer David Atkinson on the Jetphotos.com site, showing the California ANG's 163rd ARW markings and tail "colors"...
