What a beautiful plane. Lovely image.
Sixty years ago, my Dad stopped the family car to watch a Globe Swift land on our rural grass airstrip. This runway had a sag on both ends. The aircraft disappeared from view (expected, due to the sag). Suddenly, my Dad turned onto the runway, honking the car's horn! I asked, "What's going on"? A WWII PBY pilot, he answered, "He's crashed". Since we couldn't see the plane, I was dumbfounded by this observation!

We shortly came upon the scene, where the plane was resting on some "springy" birch trees. Nobody's injured, and the passengers were just exiting onto the wing.

Later, my Dad said, "Globe-Swifts are known for this". I STILL don't know what "this" was...

Robert - just guessing, but it was probably 'carburetor ice' that your Dad was referring to!!
