N737KT is a regular visitor here but not so an A306 dressed in FDX clothes. Fed Ex routinely uses B752 and B763 equipment here while UPS has A306 and B752 daily visitors. But this year, with the tremendous increase in the amount of on-line shopping orders from Amazon, Zulily, Panasonic, and the many other companies that have massive warehouses about 15 miles east of RNO coupled with the huge increase in the number of holiday packages being mailed, along with the priority transport of the Covid vaccine, Fed Ex has added A306 equipment to its RNO routes. And both FDX and UPS significantly increased the number of daily flights. Now that Christmas is just one week away, there will be a gradual reduction in the number of flights by both carriers and visits by A306s in Fed Ex paint should also be ending soon.

Perfect timing of capturing these two freighters Gary! The beautiful background really adds to this photo! Well done! All 5 and should be much more!

That's a great grab Gary. Love the color and contrast of the yellow. Never seen a this freighter before.

I was with FedEx when they bought the Airbus 300 Freighters. Originally they want 767s but it was a five year wait at the time so they went with the Bus. My office was next to the engineer that head up the program and he and I would talk about issues with the 300F such as the door placement, the slope at the aft positions, and other things. I asked him why then FedEx was buying the plane. His reply was it was like buying a new Chrysler from Lee Iacocca, it wasn't the color you wanted and didn't have the options you wanted but he gave you such a deal on the price you could not pass it up.

Also the planes are named for employees children. There is a drawing of names submitted and that is how they get there names. The name stays on the plane until it is repainted. The child gets a photo of the them and their family with the plane and a certificate. It is a great tradition....

That's fun

Great timing to frame both of those planes. Now if you only could have had a UPS B752 to complete the trio.......... My oldest son is doing the KPHX-KRNO route for DHL in tail N67TC for December 2021. My other son flies 757s for FedEx and has done KRNO a few times. Keep up the great work, Gary.

Jonathan >> Happy Holidays to you and your family. I just read your Comment. If your son is going to be in 67TC on any of these upcoming days (Tues, 28 Dec; Wed, 29 Dec; or Thurs, 30 Dec), email me at [email protected] with whatever of those days he will be in the front office of that DHL freighter and I WILL, for SURE, make sure I am there to get pics. In fact, if he is in the left seat, tell me that too and I WILL position in the proper location ON the airport grounds and zoom in on that side. I have airside access that allows me to be within 120 feet (depending, of course, on time of day and whichever runway is in use). Also, (now THIS I cannot promise; however,) although I do not have unescorted access to the cargo ramp, I have a badge that might enable me to get an escort on the cargo ramp long enough to take a few snaps of the crew by the jet. But for SURE if I know which day (or days) of those three that he will be in the cockpit, I'll be there at RNO. Heck, I'll even tell you what color clothes I'll be wearing and if 67TC is taxiing anywhere close to where I am positioned he can probably see me and give a wave.
As for your other son, once again, if you are able to get me some advance notice (re: which day & what time he is bringing a Fifty Seven through RNO), I will do my very best to be there. The DHL is easy for me because I have the PHX-RNO-PHX times (almost) memorized. On the other hand, FDX brings several Five Sevens thru here and I'd have no way to know which one he'd be on unless you told me. PLUS, I don't know anyone that may be able to get me a couple of minutes on the FDX ramp for crew pics out there so that's probably out. Jon, I go to RNO at least 3 times a week (and often more than that) so it is no trouble for me. Just let me know -- NOT here on FA - at [email protected] and then stay tuned for a reply and, then later on, for pics. (Wave)
