Lockheed C-130 Hercules (92-0549)
Nevada ANG's "Roller 4-9" taxiing south on Alpha preparing to take off on its second sortie of the day.
Comments
The crew for this mission was different from the crew that flew the morning sortie. When 4 - 9 returned to RNO about 20 - 25 minutes before this shot was snapped, the morning crew turned over this Hercules to the new crew - the props never stopped turning - and, as seen here, 4 - 9 taxied out to go airborne again.
Nice!
Up close and personal! Great shot Gary!
The C-130 has been in production for over 60 years this is a J model.
@Ken Hardy Actually it is not a J A C130J have an environmental and ice-protection bladder at the bottom front of the tail and J's came out in 1997, this in 1992 model C130H with NP 2000 Props
Super machine!!!!!!!!5* Gary..
Gary, when I was in a training squadron for PUIs on CH-46Es, we did quite a few hot seat turn overs to a new pilot trainee. I would bet at least one pilot was in a seat as the other swapped out.
Greg, Darryl, and Serge >>> Howdy to each of you and also TY for the kind comments about the photo. I appreciate your compliments, guys.
Hi, Ken >> I see that ysolo has already replied, and he is correct. The 152 AW here at RNO has no "Js" in its inventory. But you are 100% correct about the long production history of the Hercules. Truly a workhorse. (Wave)
Ysolo >>> TYVM for explaining the notable ID features of the "J."
WhKn77 >>> Hey, Hi to you. Been a while since I've seen your moniker appear under a pic of mine. How's everything? Hope all is going A-OK at your end. As for the crew swap, you are probably spot-on correct. I only heard the radio transmission between the tower and ground controller and the just-returned crew. I was not close enough to observe the actual changeover - and to be honest, I wouldn't have known exactly what I was seeing anyway. lol I'm a ground-lubber with zilch aviation knowledge and filled with frustration that I'm a ground-lubber and also filled with envy of any person who can go up in the sky either as a pilot or a crewperson. So I thank you for clarifying for me what was going on during that crew swap. (Wave of Thanks, my friend)
