Lockheed EC-121 Constellation (VH-EAG) - KOAK - January 1996 I get a phone call at 10:00pm...Gary Plomp on the line from Watsonville, CA " Tom, get your *ss up to Oakland tomorrow by 07:00am the Connie is there, and head right to the United Airlines MX shops office, and ask for George Midwin, he'll let you in and a ramp pass, but you have to still have an escort". I thank Gary and called in sick for work at 05:00Am. I drove from Gilroy, CA back when one could drive from south of San Jose to Oakland in less than 1-hour( yes at the speed limit ) kinda, I arrive and it turns out George Midwin is like the Boss of all bosses at UAL Oakland Base MX..." Hi Tom, here is your pass, do not take any photos with the UAL building and logo in them with the Connie, other than that stay near the Connie the whole time and we'll have a Van take you out to the runway edge when they depart" I didn't know if I should bow down and kiss his feet, but George was a super nice guy and it was so cool....here is my 1st look at the HARS Connie, and like a dork, what is in the 1st picture ??? a Van w/UAL logo....Ooooops??? I was "deer in headlight look" for hours,,,, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG9rtPYxWzs

Wow, on the ground in its home country but ready for Oz. Well done Tom and isn't it great to have connections. Bit of PS on the van and nobody's any the wiser, but after 24 years now, who cares:)

Oz Gman_ correct, so long ago I do not worry - but I did not take any on the restriction. I have quite a few they even let us get a ride on a rolling cherry picker that held max 3 people(driver and 2 photogs) we had to take turns and they drove up/down the ramp and we could get pics looking down
at the Connie. If I remember his name correctly, Paul Delahunty was there, and I had quite the chat with him and other photogs along with the Pilots and ground crews while the MX people fixed #3 and #4 gas line breaks/issues,,,which was what I remember them telling us on why they diverted to OAK-Oakland to have that fixed, or I never would have seen this plane. My youtube page has 3 vids posted along with the one I posted at the end of the comments.

Checked the video you posted, love it, and then there's SWA 737 passing in the old livery (bonus). The person you refer to was probably Bob Delahunty, now (and maybe back then) president of HARS. Had to look it up, I don't know these things off the top of my head.

After I looked at your video, I noticed one of the Breitling Connie and had a look. The tech they used (may be 4K) is far sharper of course BUT, that tech makes the props look as if they're windmilling. Footage such as yours from the old tech and perhaps lower level new tech, shows 'real' movement - way better. I've never videoed aircraft with my cameras, but it'd be interesting to see what they do to props.

Good stuff OZ Gman__ Bob Delahunty,,,is correct. I have his business card buried in a box in the garage with the other 100+ connie pics....THANK you, I'll correct. I have posted a few HD 35mm digital videos and mostly the Air Tankers at Redding but I am no expert. Thanks for the comps.
