Even IF this is an impressive display of the pilot's ability to control the aircraft, it is completely irresponsible, endangering the airshow attendees as well as risking loss of aircraft and pilot.

Where's the right aileron
jaxstrw
After doing a little research , it seems that losing the aileron is part of the show.

If you haven't seen this show at an airshow, then you ave missed something. This is performed away from the spectators by the way. It is done for fun, and is very well controlled. It is a great show. You should go see it before you judge it.

There are at least three pilots that do this display this is one of the best perhaps you should go see his show before you make any judgment of his skill or of the safety. Without a doubt that is the most uneducated statement I have read. FYI that is a bag of flour on the wing tip to do that. The Pilot is a personal friend and one of the most skilled showmen on the Airshow Circuit today. So any time you would like to retract your statement Michael McMurtry you are welcome to
chalet
Michael, by mistake I reported your entry when in reality I just wanted to say GO MAN, Aviation does not need these daredevils scratching the Surface wiht wingtips and endeangering THEIR lives.
Chris Collinsworth
I seen this act at Tinker AFB last summer. There is no danger to airshow attendees. All this was performed so far away from show center you had to really look for it. If you was in the back probably couldn't even seen it. You have more chance of being hurt going or leaving the airshow than this pilot hurting you. There will always be trolls when something is fun and cool.
Greg Byington
I've seen his demonstration in person before, and it is great! He absolutely knows what he is doing. Oh, and he does take the aileron off on purpose. I've posted some shots of his act in my FA gallery, as well.

@chalet The Wingtip does not make contact with the ground it is a BAG OF FLOUR to make it look like it is. Until you see the display you cant really make an educated comment on what is done just by a photo.

I don't think he's scraping the soil: he's very close to the ground (perfect flying skill) but seems to use a "mist maker pot" of some kind with an on-off switch.

These guys are in a class of their own, too bad John Mohr retired ...
Ian Gregory
I assume that Michael McMurtrey has never been to an airshow in the USA

Jeez, calm down people. I shudder to think if photos/video of my early carrier landings were posted here. He makes me look like a fool. I've seen his act numerous times. Losing the right aileron was part of the show my 3 year old daughter loved the most. She called him "Crazy Driver". She asked if I could do that (with 12,000 hours logged). "Not on my best day honey". Landing with 1 wheel hanging from a wire and all.
Rich Boddy
It really is a shame that people like Michael McMurtrey and Chalet are able to express their terrible opinions on the internet.

After reading this whole thread, I humbly feel a few awards should be given out;

1st Place goes to) The Pilot and his tremendous demonstration of skill to both fly the airplane like some could only hope to in their restless-leg syndrome dreams,

2nd Place Award goes to) The photographer William Gibson for capturing this moment. Thank you! Right place, right time, Sir!

3rd Place) goes to the rest of this crew for their incredible patience for having to put up with such incipient remarks made by the 'Holier-than-thou-keyboard Warrior who is probably, right now, at this moment, outside on his front porch yelling at the neighbor kid going by on his big-wheel, pissed off because he has to listen to his joys of laughter.. for the SEVENTEENTH time today!

And 4th Place, normally we don't give these out here... the 'Mud In Yer Eye Award' goes to...

Wait for it...

I've seen this performance many times and this is a superb pilot. As far as being risky, yes aerobatic stunt flying is inherently risky, but a skilled pilot reduces that risk. As far as airshow attendees being at risk, that is not the case for this performance, which is well clear of any spectators.
markbjorndal
Beautiful. Simply stunning. I've worked the flight deck on the Midway and Indy and have not seen anything more cool than this. Kudos x 1000.
serge LOTH
I think he knows what he is doing..
Leon Artac
You would also criticize Bob Hover, right!! Have you ever been to an airshow???
Mark Lansdell
Years ago I had the privileged of watching "The Flying Professor" perform at the old Dulles airshow. Looking back into the '60s I was privileged to watch such a skilled pilot and performer not once but several times before he passed on doing what he liked the most. Michael, if you think this was irresponsible then I shudder to think of your OPINION of a pilot turning final at the top of a loop.
Austin McCoy
I’ve seen this act twice, and there’s probably no one more able to perform this it than Kent Pietsch. He really is quite amazing.
slower01
Great pic and great pilot. I met Kent a while back and he took me on my first flight in a little plane! Super nice guy, now I'm working on my PPL! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the comments Yes Kent is a Master of his craft and I would fly with him any day and any time
Swazinigel
I've seen this guy's act several times. It appears to be neither dangerous nor irresponsible. the whole display is well controlled by the organizers and well executed.

If you haven't seen the show, refrain from inflammatory comment.
